One of Frutura’s 2025 Impact Objectives is to Enhance Regional Well-Being and Frutura Uruguay is making real on that promise through a company-wide volunteer committee which seeks to enhance quality of life in Salto, where they are headquartered. Committee members are already working side-by-side with their neighbors on park clean-ups and traffic accident mitigation programs, as well as by volunteering in local schools. Additionally, Frutura Uruguay is actively engaged in training programs at every level of the company on their path to possible B Corp Certification. ‘Every Voice Counts’ is their mantra as Frutura Uruguay’s impact culture is enhanced by new sustainability programming.

To be a Force for Good in ag, Frutura realizes the importance of decarbonizing operations and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Growers and the land they farm, are on the front lines of violent weather events globally, as they live climate change in real time. In addition to Frutura’s investments in solar energy and repurposing food waste, we’re leaning heavily into work at the farm level including green-mulching, biological pest control, and vermiculture. This month, Frutura shared its platform-wide sustainability objectives and management strategy - our Impact Collaboration Framework – that includes a 2023 emissions baseline used to measure progress. Today we take a further step and announce our partnership with Terrascope, whose innovative software will empower every company in the Frutura platform to better understand emissions hotspots, develop decarbonization roadmaps, and do its part to mitigate climate change.

Last week, our president L. Lloys Frates was invited to join a panel discussing ‘Improving Farm Work in the U.S.’ at a conference held by The Aspen Institute in D.C. Treating all of our employees in a fair and ethical manner is a central tenet at Frutura and we are proud to be part of this dialog through Lloys’ participation. One of Lloys’ main points was a need for reform in labor contracting, which is often where worker exploitation begins. She renewed Frutura’s pledge to lead by example in labor, and to share best practices and internal roadmaps so others might benefit from our learning.
