Unlocking a Brighter Future: Success Stories from the Florida Solar Energy Center Ocala’s Success with Electric Refuse Trucks The City of Ocala was proud to announce a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Their fleet of electric refuse trucks has officially hit the streets, making a transformative step towards a cleaner, greener, healthier, and quieter future for its community. Given these trucks operate with minimal noise, one of Ocala’s electric truck drivers indicated he might have to retrain some of the residents on his route since they will not be hearing the noisy diesel truck that prompted them to “scurry out with their trash.” Ocala is not just embracing change; they are leading it. Do you want to be crowned the "EV Charging Champion" who has gone above and beyond to equip your workplace with EV chargers for your employees? This is a fantastic chance for you to gain well-deserved recognition and to inspire other organizations to follow in your footsteps! Apply now by visiting: https://lnkd.in/gvJgaNq4 #workplacecharging #electricvehicles #electricchargerinstallation #chargeatwork #electricvehiclecharging
The world needs more workplaces with EV chargers. That’s why The EMPOWER Project exists. And it’s why we’ve launched a campaign to celebrate forward-thinking employers in the U.S. who are providing chargers for their employees. Workplace charging is life changing for people who can’t have a charger at home, but want to save money (and the planet) by driving electric. Our goal is to crown an EV Charging Champion–an organization that’s gone above and beyond to offer EV chargers to their employees. Whether or not you win, EVERY organization who applies will be featured on our website, promoted in social media, and sent a certificate to commemorate their success. 🙌 Nominations are accepted through December 31, 2024. APPLY HERE 👉 https://lnkd.in/gvJgaNq4 👈 Please note: to qualify, the organization needs to have installed chargers on or after April 1, 2022. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! 🙏 Thank you to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for funding EMPOWER and for our nearly 50 partners for bringing this project to life… Smart Electric Power Alliance Beam Global Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC - The Reliable One) Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) EvoCharge OpConnect Shift2Electric ICF Kimley-Horn Cadeo / Resource Innovations Atlas General Contractors - AGC Atom Power, Inc. Florida Solar Statistics For 2024! Florida’s commitment to solar is already impressive and it is growing at an incredible rate. Between doubling solar capacity, adding more solar jobs, and local utilities offering a wide range of rebates and incentives, the state should serve as the roadmap that other states should follow toward the clean, renewable energy we need for our future. To move from pollution-producing sources, Florida Power & Light swapped a coal-powered plant to a solar site, which is expected to eliminate more than 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide and power up to 14,000 homes. Mitigating Extreme Heat Events in Hot Humid Climates On Sept. 17, 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced selections for $38.8 million in funding for 25 projects across 17 states to research and develop high-impact building technologies and practices aimed at decarbonizing, reducing peak demand on the electric grid, enhancing resilience, and lowering energy costs. Let's extend our congratulations to the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) for their successful proposal award amount of $1.4 million. #humidclimates #heatevents #grid #Indoorthermalcomfort #energystorage Karthik Panchabikesan
This is Special. Our proposal titled 'Mitigating Extreme Heat Events in Hot Humid Climates' to DOE's BENEFIT 2024 program has been awarded US$1.4 million (https://lnkd.in/e6sEm5qf). In partnership with Transaera, Inc. and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, FSEC® Florida Solar Energy Center, University of Central Florida will develop and demonstrate an affordable, energy-efficient, portable cooler to maintain indoor thermal comfort and survivability during extreme heatwaves. The portable cooler will use novel heat exchangers with solid desiccant coatings to dehumidify the air quickly, improving cooling efficiency by 44% compared to the industry standard portable air conditioners. Coupling the cooler with energy storage will enable the system to operate without assistance from the grid for at least 24 hours and reduce the energy needs of LMI households. Thanks to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy, David Chasar, PE, Robin Vieira, Danny Parker, Richard Raustad and Carlos Colon. Looking forward to working on the project 🙃

But at the same time, many consumers and decisionmakers may not know very much about the electric vehicle (EV) market in Florida or have misperceptions about EVs. EVs have many benefits for consumers and society at large and should be encouraged by public policy. The purpose of this webinar “Electric Vehicles: Myths and Facts for Decisionmakers” is to help policymakers and members of the public understand some of the benefits of EVs to Florida consumers and perhaps clear up some of the misperceptions or concerns that people have regarding growth of the EV market in the State.
