This act seeks to increase and improve the data collection processes of Maternal Mortality Review Committees while encouraging greater diversity and community engagement in the committees. Maternity care deserts are a major problem across the country, leaving millions of women with insufficient access to maternity care. The Perinatal Workforce Act seeks to increase the number of maternity care providers in these areas. This act prioritizes community-based care just as much as clinical care. This is vital since evidence shows that this results in better experiences and health outcomes for birthing people.
