Awareness is the first step toward meaningful change—which is why data collection plays a huge role in improving models of care. This is why we support the Data to Save Moms Act. This act seeks to increase and improve the data collection processes of Maternal Mortality Review Committees while encouraging greater diversity and community engagement in the committees. Did you know our own Nakeenya served on the TX Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee as a community rep? And because of political data suppression, the community rep role was eliminated and she was pushed off. See her LinkedIn profile for news coverage about it: https://lnkd.in/drBGqmJT Read about the Data to Save Moms Act (see page 12) and more: https://lnkd.in/efXCqwPq https://lnkd.in/d8Zx8kyn Learn more about Maternal Mortality Review Committees here: https://lnkd.in/dENbajAj #birthequity #birthjustice #maternalhealth
Funders for Birth Justice & Equity
Non-profit Organizations
We are a collective of funders dedicated to the fight for birth justice, advocacy, & equity for all.
About us
Funders for Birth Justice & Equity is the go-to place for folks who want to learn how to make real change within the birth equity and justice movement. Here, you will find the education, resources, support, and opportunities needed to create systemic change! Our goal is to end inequities in birth outcomes and improve experiences for all birthing people. We work tirelessly to advance respectful, physiologic care and equitable access to birth workers. We do this by serving as a collective, collaborative action group that works to transform the broken system. The issue of racism and birth inequities is not new, but it is one that funders are now looking to act on strategically to propel the cause forward. Decades of research and hard work have resulted in BIPOC-led, community-based solutions. However, these community-based solutions have been notoriously underfunded. We are working hard to meet our goals of achieving a transformed and just birthing care system for all!

Maternity care deserts are a major problem across the country, leaving millions of women with insufficient access to maternity care. The Perinatal Workforce Act seeks to increase the number of maternity care providers in these areas. This act prioritizes community-based care just as much as clinical care. This is vital since evidence shows that this results in better experiences and health outcomes for birthing people. Midwives are essential to a just and equitable maternal healthcare system. They are skilled professionals that also serve as strong advocates for patient wants and needs. They provide much-needed personalized, evidence-based care in a too often over-medicalized system. Want to learn more about midwifery?
