Futamura (Cellulose Films)

I built a frame and inserted these flexible films from Parkside Flexibles (Europe and Asia) Ltd and put 500mm down in Westaway Sausages Ltd. compost. Today after 54 days they had broken down completely. 19nk/30pbsa 25gsm Paper/22dne 19nk/22 DNE 25gsm Paper/19nk/30pbsa Please see the films as before trial in the picture below the frame. I think it is important to realise there are other options to using PVC/PE and composite flexible films, and "recycling" (I am not sure if this is defined as recycling) at the entrance to large supermarkets. These films can be recycled at home, at a local community compost facility, or maybe in the future included in food waste. If waste can be turned into a resource then it will have a value. #soil #composting

All seeking to realise the great promises of #biobased products and processes. A great opening from George Freeman FRSA MP as he shared his vast experience as a Government Minister and champion for innovation and industrial strategy. He calls for a cross-departmental and national mission for innovation and a transition to strong, sustainable, sovereign industries. He says that this is the strongest opportunity for UK, but also that it faces some of greatest challenges to realise it. It must be led by industry, establishing value chains through partnership with innovators and Government. This summer, I had the opportunity to study abroad with Michigan State University's Packaging Program in the United Kingdom. We focused on various plant tours, including Graphic Packaging International - Europe, Sealed Air Corporation, Encirc, Futamura (Cellulose Films), Berry Global, Inc., and many other amazing companies. I learned so much about sustainability, legislation, and design innovation in the UK and had the opportunity to talk, learn, and ask questions with an array of industry professionals. We were also able to visit some historical landmarks like Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, the Roman Baths, Big Ben, King Arthur's Seat, and Loch Lomond. A special thanks to Aaron Tucker, John Marshall, DBA, and Keith Barnes, for making this trip possible and guiding us through a once in a lifetime experience.
