What is Pain catastrophizing? "Pain catastrophizing is the tendency to describe a pain experience in exaggerated terms, to ruminate on it, and/or to feel helpless about the experience." It is thinking the worst about every little pain. Worry. Anxiety. Fear. All emotions that heighten the body's awareness of the pain. Pain is a very personal experience. It is affected by past experiences, both our own and those close to us. This is often why the traditional medical system has poor ability to provide lasting relief for pain complaints. Physical Therapy at Future Physical Therapy can help you make strides towards control over the emotions you experience with pain AND the source of the pain itself! #physicaltherapy #futurephysicaltherapy #painexperience #emotions

Future Physical Therapy has a team of specialty therapists that can help with exercises and education to manage pain, numbness, fatigue, incontinence, balance disorder, and many other effects of cancer treatments. Prostate cancer, breast cancer (treatments), pelvic organ cancer, colon cancer, and bladder cancer all affect the pelvic region. We are experts in approaching these areas with extra knowledge of the muscles, nerves, and function of these systems. #cancer #pelvicPT #physicaltherapy #futurephysicaltherapy

On this last day of Cancer Prevention Awareness Month we want to share: Cancer Screenings by Age Cervical cancer - Pap smear every 3 years beginning at age 25. Colon cancer - Colonoscopy (or Cologuard) beginning at age 45. Breast cancer - Mammogram annually beginning at age 45 (or 40 with certain risk factors). Prostate cancer - PSA levels should be checked at age 45 (or 40 with certain risk factors). Lung cancer - A “low-dose” CT scan is recommended for smokers beginning at age 50. Source: https://zurl.co/3q8Q Obviously there are a lot of factors that go into these recommendations, especially if you are in a “high risk” category or have a family history of one of these cancers. Always talk to your primary care doctor about any changes you notice with your body! #prevention #cancerawareness #pelvicPT #physicaltherapy #WELLNESS #Awareness

Does your baby have a "preferred side"? They may have tightness in their neck muscles that could lead to Plagiocephaly (or flat head syndrome). We can get them moving better in just a few visits of PT! "Torticollis is a condition in which the neck is involuntarily in a turned or twisted position. It can affect children and adults. There are two main types of torticollis—congenital (present at birth) and acquired." BOTH of my babies had a mild form of torticollis. Because it can affect the ability to establish successful breastfeeding, we see these babies as early as a few days old! #pediatricPT #torticollis #flatheadsyndrome #lactationcounseling #physicaltherapy #futurephysicaltherapy
