SPANISH OE MEETING ALERT!! BEWARE OF THE "Ñ"!! As many of you know, the word AÑO means "year." As many of you may not know, the word ANO means anus. So think about how many times, and in what contexts, the word "year" appears in an OE presentation. Our favorite example is this (true story): English original: Your EAP covers the cost of 5 visits per problem per year. Spanish translation: Su EAP cubre el costo de 5 visitas por problema por ano. Meaning of Spanish translation: Your EAP covers the cost of 5 visits per anal problem. Yup, that was on a slide we were asked to present on a HUGE screen to a warehouse full of 600 employees. Of course we would love to support you, but this is why we require that, if we're going to present, we either translate your PPT or approve the translation if it was done by another resource. #SorryNotSorry #ProtectYourBrand #NoPottyTalkAtOEMeetings #BenefitsEducation #BenefitsBrokers #ComplicatedKeyStrokes #Q4Chaos

Want to know the WORST way to begin an OE presentation? OK, we'll tell you. "This is not required, so you really don't have to enroll." And we DID actually hear this. In Spanish of course, so the broker and the benefits manager had no idea that this was the presenter's sales pitch. We had been contracted to present only the slides on voluntary products, because the client had a bilingual supervisor who would present the medical plans. Clearly, there was somewhere else he wanted to be, and we really didn't blame him. Explaining benefits was not his job, and his actual job was hard enough. Our rep frantically texted the broker, but the damage was done. Later an employee asked, "Does this plan cover everything?" The presenter answered, "yes." You work way too hard and benefits are WAY too complicated---not to mention important---to take this kind of risk. Just because you speak English does not mean you can: Engage a reluctant audience (yes, they're often reluctant) Draw out questions Build rapport Illustrate tricky benefits concepts, using examples Give employees the best chance of making decisions in their own best interest Teach them why benefits are called benefits in the first place So just because someone speaks Spanish (or any other language) doesn't mean they can do any of these either. (But we can. That's what we're here for.) Be VERY picky about who is presenting your plans. Are their goals and priorities aligned with yours? How can you be sure? #BenefitsCommunication #OpenEnrollment #EpicOEFail #LostInTranslation

#BenefitsBroker friends, many of you are, at this very moment, trying to teach a difficult subject (benefits) to reluctant students (hourly employees with limited English). Pause for a moment and put yourself in their shoes... Imagine you're living in a different country where English is not spoken, and the decisions you make, based on this info, will have a significant impact on your family's wellbeing... And there's no English-speaking expert around to walk you through this... What format would help you understand and retain complicated, stress-inducing information?? How about a 5-6 minute animated, engaging video summary? Just a thought... 😉 #Futuro5 #OpenEnrollment #BenefitsEducation #BenefitsCliffNotes #DetailsBelongInYourGuide

OMG it is Q4 on steroids in our world. Just checking in to wish everyone a Happy Friday and remind you that we're getting requests for a WIDE variety of languages---which, in the past 48 hours, has included Polish and Hakha Chin (regional language spoken in Burma, NOT to be confused with Burmese!) Click link in comments if you need a FAST estimate. We've got your back. And remember to ask about affordable, custom, Futuro 5 videos, in any language (with the possible exception of Parseltongue...)
