La Central: A Replicable Model of Equitable Development will celebrate the project's CTBUH Equity Diversity and Inclusion Award win. Delivering subsidized homes for over 2,000 rent-burdened New Yorkers and supportive housing for 160 formerly homeless veterans, the project addresses both community aspirations and city-wide policy goals. https://lnkd.in/e4_fcYCE Going Deep: Converting Office Buildings into Residences will explore the repurposing of outdated office towers to residential use and the role this plays in the reinvention of our cities. https://lnkd.in/eAegJzxg #ctbuh #neworrenew #ctbuh2024 #DEI

Thrilled to be featured on CBS Sunday Morning in collaboration with FXCollaborative! The segment highlighted innovative solutions to reduce bird strikes, showcasing Skyline's very own 30-55 Vernon Boulevard. This new construction project features a combination of punched openings and window wall, with a significant portion of the facade's glazing designed to be bird-friendly. Make sure to check it out! One of my favorite ways to enjoy a Sunday morning involves watching CBS Sunday Morning. I love the variety of human interest stories they share and I always learn a fun new fact. So imagine my surprise mid-sip of coffee when a segment starts discussing bird migratory patterns. And then Daniel Piselli AIA, LEED, CPHD of FXCollaborative is being interviewed (reminder, he spoke at National Glass Association (NGA)’s BEC Conference in 2020)! And then they’re actually talking about #bird-friendly glazing!! 🤯 A nod to Kayla Natividad’s “Glass in Media” - it was a four-minute episode that went by too quickly. It’s a good thing you can view it again here: https://lnkd.in/e53WZ67z. AND, this is super timely because NGA just published a brand new #AIA presentation: Key Strategies of Bird-Friendly Glazing. Which supplements NGA’s already-growing stash of bird-friendly resources, including: 👉🏻a written Design Guide (https://lnkd.in/eBmwrVmb); and, 👉🏻 a *brand* new building policies database; and, 👉🏻 a cheesy, yet catchy music playlist made by yours truly to really immerse yourself in all things bird-friendly. Happy Sunday. 🐦⬛🕊️ #architect #design #glass

AWESOME feature on national news re. implementation of bird friendly glass - yes, there are options that can be aesthetically pleasing.. The focus is in a New York City residential application where a transparent configuration has been implemented. Daniel Piselli AIA, LEED, CPHD of FXCollaborative discusses the execution on multiple projects that the firm has successfully implemented. This is becoming a code requirement in more and more jurisdictions - I’m happy to see options that the architectural community can get behind and support.

We are looking forward to Reenergizing the City: PlanScapeArch Conference 2024, which will bring together architects, landscape architects, planners, government officials, and other professions to examine new and necessary expectations placed upon our built and natural environment, redefine how our professions can best respond to these new expectations, and work to redefine the city as one that works for all. The conference is organized by ASLA-NY, AIA New York | Center for Architecture, American Planning Association NY Metro Chapter, and the committee includes FXCollaborative urban designer HITAKSHI AGRAWAL. I’m honored to serve again as co-chair for the inter-disciplinary event, PlanScapeArch. It’s been great working alongside co-sponsors AIA New York | Center for Architecture, ASLA- NY and American Planning Association NY Metro Chapter and I’m excited to see the event premier on Friday, September 20th, 2024. Timed to coincide with Climate Group's Climate Week NYC, the event makes for the perfect place to question how our professional and governmental leaders are effectively tackling the crisis. As communities demand more inclusive design processes, we will explore how the industry can address the unparalleled growth taking place in the urban realm. Equally representing three design professions – architecture, landscape architecture and planning – RE-ENERGIZING THE CITY seeks to foster multiple perspectives and reframe the conversation to engage individuals – from locals to thought-leaders. The event will showcase forward-looking discussions that reflect on new and necessary expectations entering our built and natural environment. With a shared ethos that promotes sustainability, resilience, and public access, we will be looking at how our multi-disciplinary processes must evolve – together – to meet these challenges and to reimagine the city as one that works for all. Our impressive lineup this year includes keynote speakers Vishaan Chakrabarti, FAIA, Founder and Creative Director, Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), Iain Macdonald, Director, INSTANCE BV Architecture + Technologies, and Elijah Hutchinson, Executive Director, NYC Office of the Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, with panel sessions moderated by Jee Mee Kim-Diaz, City Executive, NYC Region/Vice President, Arcadis, Kaja Kühl, Dipl.Ing, AICP, Founding Principal, YOUARETHECITY and Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, Nette Compton, President and CEO, Mill River Park Collaborative, and Sarah Williams, Director of the Civic Data Design Lab and Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. And special thanks to our dedicated committee this year: David Burgy, AICP, PMP, Phu Duong, Suzanne Mecs, Hon. AIA NYState, Maitri Pujara, Kevin Corté, AICP, Diane Sferrazza Katz, Bria Donohue, HITAKSHI AGRAWAL, Deniz Onder Litowitz, and Chuck Hovanic. Watch this space for more details about the sessions and registration; I hope you’ll join me in what will be an engaging and lively debate! #nyc #architecture #landscapearchitecture #planning #urbanrealm #asla #aslany #aia #aiany #apa #apametrony #planscapearch #ClimateWeekNYC
