What is Gaffers Tape Made of? Gaffers Tape is a cloth tape most often used in the arts and entertainment industry for stage marking, cord covering, and other clean removal applications. It is composed of three basic elements: Adhesive: A synthetic rubber adhesive system allows for clean removal properties from most surfaces, including carpet and finished concrete. Backing: Gaffers tape is a cloth product, supplied on a cloth backing made of tightly woven fabric. This allows gaffers tape to remain hand tearable with good overall strength. Release Coating: Applied to the backing material, a release coating allows the tape to unwind from itself. Without the release coating, you’d never be able to use the product!
