It’s about time we had a serious discussion about women and their wealth! Thank you The Chronicle of Philanthropy for this important cover article! #philanthropy #womenleaders #nonprofitleaders #women
With U.S. women expected to inherit trillions of dollars over the next decade, nonprofits are poised to collect a bounty of gifts — if nonprofits put more effort into understanding of women donors, experts say. Women are overlooked or not properly engaged at every stage of the fundraising process, including in research that doesn't examine them separately from their spouses or partners, according to Jacqueline Ackerman of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. While some organizations are targeting women funders, "we still hear from plenty of women donors with horror stories, or we see examples of it not changing everywhere or across the board," she said. Data shows that when women give to charities they are incredibly generous and, unlike their male counterparts, are likely to support a broad range of causes.
