  • Happy 20-Year Anniversary to Fintan Kenny, one of Gallin’s busiest Supers. Fintan arrived in the U.S. from Ireland in his early 20s and picked up work as a carpenter and laborer. Looking for something more challenging, he soon found his way to Gallin where he proved himself to be a skilled craftsman and a natural leader. Asked what it takes to be a good Super he quickly replies, “Patience. You have to know how the job is going to run when you walk in the door – but be ready to deal with the unexpected.” With his keen eye and cool head, he’s brought countless jobs to completion. Thinking back to when he first came on board at Gallin, Fintan recalls people reacting, “Oh they’re one of the best companies to work for!” He felt fortunate to have landed here, and we’re fortunate that 20 years later he’s still with us. Congratulations!

  • Happy International Coffee Day! It’s arguably the most important part of a construction worker’s diet… or pretty much anyone trying to get through a busy day (don’t tell our doctor lol). There’s a lovely fall chill in the air, so put on a fresh pot and let’s get to work!

  • Our Fun Fact this Friday: Gallin client The Wallace Foundation provides generous support to an array of education and arts programs for young people. But what was the source of Wallace's fortune? Reader’s Digest! DeWitt Wallace came up with the idea in 1920s while convalescing from war wounds. He passed the time reading and condensing articles… and a publishing juggernaut was born.

Bishop Boardman is a senior housing facility operated by Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, a nonprofit organization which Gallin has been privileged to work with on several occasions. For this renovation, designed by TPD | Architecture, Gallin upgraded the entire front entryway including canopy with all new finishes of glass, stone and lighting along with sliding doors. Inside, the ground floor common areas received a major refresh with geometric acoustic ceiling tiles, enhanced lighting, stylish room dividers, glass walls, and an updated HVAC system. White marble flooring and dark wood accents give the spaces a polished elegance. Gallin also upgraded the elevator cabs as well as the hallways on all six floors. For the comfort and safety of their senior population, work was phased to minimize disruption, and HEPA filters were used to curtail dust. Learn more about this project: https://lnkd.in/epNd_wYK

  • A huge congratulations to one of Gallin’s most experienced Supers, Joe Tierney, celebrating his 40th anniversary with the firm. It seems impossible that someone so young in years – and spirit – could have been here so long. Joe started with us as a carpenter’s apprentice and took to it immediately. He put in the work, laboring by day and studying by night. Joe credits the extremely talented coworkers he came up with at Gallin for passing on invaluable knowledge – skills, and know-how they had learned from their fathers and mentors who also called Gallin home. Now a Super for 30 plus years, he looks back fondly recalling an early instructor who was particularly impressed with his output asking where he’d learned to work like that. “Gallin,” he said simply, and they responded, “You sure landed in the right spot.” We couldn’t agree more!
