To that end, the organization will hold a press conference where representatives will highlight the dangers of tobacco smoke. Set to take place tomorrow, October 30, CEASE’s press conference will try to persuade Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe to change course and prioritize their employees’ and customers’ safety. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, US Treasury (FinCEN) just slapped a $900,000 fine on the Lake Elsinore Hotel and Casino in California. This marks FinCEN’s first move against a casino in six years. The penalty is part of a deal to settle alleged violations of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). FinCEN claims the casino ignored key anti-money-laundering (AML) measures for a long time. This neglect put both its customers and the wider US financial system in danger. College Township is taking proactive steps to assess the potential effects of the upcoming Nittany Mall mini-casino by initiating a comprehensive impact study. The $120 million casino, opening in 2026, will house 750 slot machines, 30 table games, and a sportsbook in the State College area, necessitating a thorough understanding of the development’s social and economic footprint. News outlet Centre Daily Times reported on a new draft request for quote (RFQ) for a casino impact study to the Township Council proposed by assistant township manager Mike Bloom. Former President Donald Trump just appeared in a three-hour interview with famous podcaster Joe Rogan, providing some insights into his political career. In a curious reveal, Trump admitted that he needed a lot of outside advice for key staff appointments – some of which he got from casino mogul Phil Ruffin. When asked how he made appointments, the former president explained that, at first, he didn’t know many people from Washington. As a “New York guy,” Trump had to lean on trusted contacts for advice. The Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China has become a Las Vegas of Asia, at a time when China is not only firmly opposed to gambling, but also cracks down on illegal gambling operations overseas. Now, though, new data from Macau’s Central Registry System for Individuals with Gambling Disorders suggests that even the regulated sector is harming consumers, with the city’s number of registered cases of people with gambling disorders reaching 108 between January and June 2024. As anticipation builds up in the province of Alberta for Ontario-style iGaming, the University of Alberta and political science professor Fiona Nicoll have created a new research-based course that seeks to address the proliferation of commercial gambling in the province that is due to take place soon. The course, developed and coordinated with the Alberta Gaming Research Institute, focuses on educating graduates about the challenges that the expansion of commercial gambling would mean for the province and its implications – whether this has to do with addiction or treatment options for people who fall into bad habits. Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited, a top casino operator in Canada, plans to raise CAD1.8 billion ($1.3 billion) in private debt. People close to the matter say the company wants this money to reshape its current debt and give dividends to its shareholders, reported Bloomberg. Morgan Stanley, a big investment firm, is handling the deal. If it goes through, it would be one of the biggest private debt deals in Canada this year. Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling watchdog, has issued a $730,000 (€675,000) fine against NetX Betting Limited, which the watchdog argues has been offering online gambling without a license in the country. As a regulator, the Dutch Gaming Authority has been one of the harshest in Europe, with many companies falling under its blows arguing that the regulator had gone to incredible lengths to “prove” that they were offering an illegal gambling product when in reality, the regulator had to do use VPN and other means to access the website. The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) have formalized their Memorandum of Understanding which will see the two watchdogs collaborate on a range of issues, including addressing the black market. The UKGC has recently launched a new methodology meant to help it properly assess the true size of the gambling market in the country, and help it better understand how it can help stave the influx of players heading for illegal gambling websites.
