  • Hear from Lily Isaac (Michigan State), about her summer internship at the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office in Flint, MI. "Here I was able to conduct first hand research into how effectively drug courts work in inner cities, such as Flint, MI, and how they can be changed to best help reduce drug use and crime. This research was then submitted to faculty at James Madison College for review. It was an inspiring experience working in my home county and I loved every second of it! Drug Courts take on the root of drug abuse and help put non-violent offenders back in a place where they can be contributing members of society. Rehabilitation is just one amazing way the prosecutors in Flint are attempting to revitalize the city and are working to help residents improve their quality of life. I hope I get the opportunity to come back and continue working within the Drug Court!"

  • Our #OverTheMoonMonday this week is Lyndsay Rush (Kansas) whose debut poetry collection "A Bit Much," was released last week. You may have seen her work previously on her Instagram account @maryoliversdrunkcousin and in this new book, Lyndsay addresses the female experience with humor and honesty. She grapples with big topics like whether or not to have children, body image, and what it means to age gracefully alongside roasting the patriarchy and deconstructing her religious upbringing. Check out Lyndsay's book wherever books are sold!

  • Hear from Mulan Nguyen (University of California Santa Barbara) about her experience as an audit intern! “This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to work as an audit intern at Ernst & Young in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications sector. I’m incredibly excited to return as an audit associate in the San Jose office next fall. I was able to help with quarterly financial statements and test of controls while learning more about the audit practice with the guidance of seniors and managers on my engagement team. I will be focusing on studying for my CPA while continuing to be a Tutor for the Accounting program and a portfolio manager for the Dean’s Investment Group."

  • This past summer, Eva Vickerman (Toronto) served as a counselor for Diabetes Canada at Camp Huronda. Camp Huronda works to provide support for children to help manage their type 1 diabetes in a safe environment, while still providing the fun and joy of summer camp. This was Eva's 8th summer at Camp Huronda and her first one as a staff member. While serving as a counselor, she directly supported campers with their diabetes and acted as a role model for younger campers. Here’s what Eva has to say about her experience, "Camp is such a special place to me, and going from being a camper here to being a member of staff has been such an incredible transition. Huronda has a place for everyone, and I can’t express how much I love it! This summer has been such a great experience with lots of learning opportunities, all of which I’m grateful for.” Sounds like such an amazing experience, Eva!

  • To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating our sisters and their stories! Hear from Natalia (Southern California), who is the Panhellenic Affairs Vice President at Beta Alpha Chapter. Natalia Lima is studying Philosophy, Politics and Law with a double in PR and Advertising on a pre-law track hoping to become a lawyer and own her own practice. “Being Latina at a PWI has its challenges, but I’ve found my home at USC. As Co-director of USC Latine Student Assembly and a founding leader of USC Latino Students in Law I embrace active leadership in my community. I’m grateful for the many hermanas I’ve made through Gphi and the Panhellenic community. It’s empowering to express my culture and to have a strong support system of women excited to engage in the events I lead. Gphi celebrates my diverse backgrounds, and I’m proud to showcase the vibrancy of Latinidad!”
