  • Our October Spotlight Member is Anissa R. Patton. She has been a dedicated member of GAWL since 2018, joining because she wanted to serve in an organization that intentionally supports all women in the legal profession. She served as co-chair of the Mentorship Committee in 2022 and has been the Vice President of the Programs Committee since 2023. About GAWL, Anissa said, “As members, we can help each other by ensuring that there are ample opportunities for professional development and entry into the profession for all women. We have a moral obligation to open doors and shatter glass ceilings for the next generation of women in the profession.” Anissa embodies this sentiment by serving at her favorite GAWL events, the annual board retreat, and the Sneaker Ball. The board retreat is an opportunity to fellowship with other members and focus on planning great events for the year ahead. The Sneaker Ball is an opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful things GAWL has done during the year. Anissa’s tip for professional development is to have perseverance. When asked by an audience of young people how she dealt with loss, she explained, “You never lose—either achieve your desired outcome or change your strategy and be brave enough to try again. That's a real ‘win’ when trying to achieve success.” While she’s not busy encouraging youth or planning events that GAWL members love, Anissa enjoys reading a good book. #GAWL #GeorgiaLawyer #MemberSpotlight
