The European Commission has approved an application from ORLEN Synthos Green Energy and GEH to establish a working group to support deployment of the BWRX-300 in Europe. The group will consist of 18 companies from 10 EU Member States and Norway. “The establishment of a BWRX-300 technology working group is another significant step in the deployment of our SMR technology in Europe,” said Sean Sexstone, Executive Vice President, Advanced Nuclear, GEH. “We look forward to working with these experienced team members to advance the BWRX-300.” The working group is being established as part of the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors which aims to facilitate and accelerate the development, demonstration and deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s. The application to establish the group was submitted in July and was prepared by OSGE in collaboration with GEH. “The EC’s acceptance of our application, and foremost, the acknowledgment that the BWRX-300 SMR technology - a design based on proven technologies with an existing supply chain in Europe - chosen by OSGE provides a viable basis for construction in the EU at the beginning of the next decade, is very exciting news and will positively impact our project,” says Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE.

We announced today that we have selected Velan Inc., a Montreal-based company, to provide engineering support and manufacture valves for the first BWRX-300 small modular reactor. “Our collaboration with Velan will further strengthen the robust and experienced Canadian nuclear supply chain and bring economic benefits to the country,” said Sean Sexstone, Executive Vice President, Advanced Nuclear, GEH. “It also positions Velan to be a strategic supplier as our technology is deployed globally. We will continue to look for opportunities to work with Canadian suppliers to support the deployment of the BWRX-300.” “Velan’s involvement in this project highlights our decades-long leadership in the nuclear power sector,” said James Mannebach, Chairman and CEO of Velan Inc. “As we approach our 75th anniversary in 2025, we are remarkably well-positioned to support this landmark project and help shape the future of Canada’s nuclear energy landscape through Small Modular Reactor technology.” GEH and Ontario Power Generation are developing the first BWRX-300 at OPG’s Darlington site. Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF), has been selected as an awardee by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to provide High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) deconversion services. Through this selection, GNF will be eligible to bid on future task orders to design, license, build and operate HALEU deconversion capability. This work could involve deconverting uranium hexafluoride gas to a metal and oxide that will be transported and stored until there is a need for it to be manufactured into fuel for advanced nuclear reactors. “We are pleased to be selected for this important work that will help develop the fuel supply chain for the next generation of U.S. reactors,” said Mike Chilton, Executive Vice President, GNF. The DOE-funded deconversion scope of work could last for up to 10 years. Fuel for nuclear power plants has been manufactured at GNF’s Wilmington, NC facility since 1968.

We were proud to host a team from ORLEN Synthos Green Energy at our training center in San Jose, California as part of our collaboration to deploy the BWRX-300 small modular reactor in Poland.
Kolejna grupa pracowników OSGE ukończyła intensywne szkolenie "BWRX-300 Executive Training Seminar" w centrum treningowym GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy w San Jose. 🎓 Dziewięciu pracowników, w tym dwóch członków zarządu: Wojciech Wrochna LL.M. i Bartosz Fijalkowski, przez cztery dni pogłębiało swoją wiedzę na temat systemów, komponentów oraz procedur w elektrowniach jądrowych z reaktorami typu BWR. Szkolenie obejmowało zarówno wykłady teoretyczne, prowadzone przez ekspertów GEH i praktyków z wieloletnim doświadczeniem, jak i praktyczne ćwiczenia związane z obsługą reaktora oraz przeładunkiem paliwa. Centrum Szkoleniowe GE Hitachi dysponuje pełnowymiarowym reaktorem oraz makietami poszczególnych komponentów, co umożliwia uczestnikom zdobywanie praktycznych umiejętności.
