🧑🏫 G2V Director, Jason Vassy, and Genetic Counselor, Morgan Danowski, made their way to ❄️snowy Colorado❄️ for the American Society of Human Genetics annual conference! ✨Morgan presented some preliminary findings from The Million Veteran Program: Return of Actionable Results Study, which concluded earlier this year. Our Genomes2People colleagues, and of course our Director said she absolutely rocked it! We’re so proud of you Morgan for representing us at #ASHG24! 🧬Fun fact: Morgan has been the project manager of this project since its conception! It’s incredible to now watch her present this really important work on a national stage. #PrecisionMedicine #Genetics #GeneticCounseling #ConferenceSeason #VeteranHealth #Genomics #GenomicMed

We're thrilled to announce that enrollment into the ProGRESS trial of precision prostate cancer screening has begun: https://lnkd.in/eHxEW76P It has been great collaborating with Niall J Lennon and the Broad Clinical Labs team in implementing an assay for both monogenic and polygenic risk. If you're at #ASHG2024, come see me at Poster 5171 today to learn more. If you're not here in snowy Denver with us, read all about it in our preprint here: https://lnkd.in/ewngmVTm Genomes2Veterans Genomes2People U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs American Society of Human Genetics
'Forewarned is forearmed' is an old adage that holds true for disease risk estimation also. We are delighted to announce this partnership with the Genomes2Veterans team (Jason Vassy) to support the VA-funded Prostate Cancer, Genetic Risk, and Equitable Screening Study using our blended genome exome assay and our geneticists to sign out both monogenic and polygenic risk for prostate cancer. https://lnkd.in/dQP6bNKd

The #G2V Trainee Program might be our most fun "project," that we have. By working with trainees, we are teaching the ins and outs to research development, precision medicine tools, and expansion of clinical access. We also learn a lot from our students. Our final student is an Endicott College senior, completing her semester long internship with #G2V, Rosalina Caliri. Rosa is a biotechnology major, who is passionate about the ways #genetic #medicine can be used to improve #healthcare. To do this, Rosa is working closely with the #REFLECTION and #ProGRESS Study Teams. So far, Rosa has taken the time to understand the roles a genetic counselor, data scientist/manager, principal investigator, project coordinators, and budget analysts work to keep our program up, running, and successful. As Rosa continues with her time at G2V, we are excited to see her interests in #genomic #medicine evolve! #FunFact: Rosa is able to drive a stick shift!

I am truly grateful for my in-depth experience with Genomes2Veterans. During my time there, I explored various aspects of Genetic Counseling, discussed new and emerging genomic technologies, and reviewed a wealth of relevant literature. I already miss my time in Boston, but I'm excited to apply these skills in my future endeavors!
Here at #G2V we are fortunate enough to take part in training the next generation of #genetic #scientists. We're going to take the next few days to introduce some of these junior scientists we've had the pleasure of working with this semester. Over the summer, we had the pleasure of hosting Ella Ransbottom from Furman University. Ella's work primarily focused on the Million Veterans Program Return of Actionable Results, or MVP-ROAR, the GenoVA Project, and ProGRESS. Ella got a little taste of all of our projects! Though her work, Ella was able to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of managing complex, interdisciplinary research projects at the local and national levels. She contributed greatly to publications, posters, and abstracts by developing literature reviews and figures, participating in Team meetings, and shadowing clinics. Best of luck Ella on your future endeavors! We can't wait to see what is in store for you! Thank you for all of your hard work this summer! #FunFact: Ella has been skydiving #FunFact: Did you know G2V Director, Jason Vassy, also went to Furman University?

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time this morning at our Brockton Campus to recruit Vets into the #ReflectionStudy! 🧬 As always, it was a pleasure to meet some new faces, hear stories, and connect with Veterans outside of our Jamaica Plain Campus, where I typically am located. 🏥 #PrecisionMedicine #MCED #MultiCancerEarlyDetection #Screening #CancerScreening #Research

It is an honor to play a small role in training the next generation of #genomic #scientists, which is why we are taking the time to highlight our wonderful #G2V trainees. Khanh Ngo is a third year student at UC Irvine, who is working with #G2V to further her knowledge on the use of precision medicine as a preventive healthcare tool. To do this, Khanh is working on the #REFLECTION and #ProGRESS Research studies! All the way in California, Khanh's work to recruit Veteran's into our #Boston-based research studies has been invaluable. We are extremely grateful for her work and dedication to expanding access to precision medicine within the Veteran population. We are even more excited to continue our work with her through the spring! #FunFact: Khanh was born and raised in sunny California!

As a research program, we've worked hard to develop relationships with local colleges and universities to tap into the expertise many students have to offer! In July 2024 we welcomed Camille Amaditz onto the #G2V Team from Northeastern University, where she primarily works on the REFLECTION Study. As a member of the VA Boston Healthcare System #REFLECTION Study, Camille is integral to the day-to-day operations of the study. Camille's professionalism, desire to expand innovative #precision #medicine screenings, and care for our Veterans have been vital to her role in recruiting and enrolling Veterans into the research study. In addition to her work on the #REFLECTION Study, Camille works on the #MVP-#ROAR and #ProGRESS studies, where she works with various members of our research team. #FunFact: Camille spent her very first semester of college abroad in Scotland!

I have the pleasure of leading the #REFLECTION Study here at VA Boston Healthcare System and Genomes2Veterans. Bringing our Veterans a new and innovative type of cancer screening to enhance their care has been a privilege. I’ve connected with hundreds of Veterans who I likely never would have crossed paths with, built longstanding relationships within VA Boston, and met some wonderful new colleagues across the country. All because we’re striving to increase access to precision medicine. Truly an honor to play one small piece of this incredible project to best serve the most deserving population! #PrecisionMedicine #GenomicMedicine #MCED #EarlyDetection #CancerScreening #GetScreened
News from the Early Detection of Cancer Conference #EdxConf24: The initial results from the REFLECTION study provide important insights into the impact of multi-cancer early detection (MCED) testing to help transform cancer screening in a real-world setting. https://bit.ly/4eTDuTz

Yesterday, REFLECTION Study Team members, Charlene Preys and Camille Amaditz took to the Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center at VA Boston Healthcare System for recruitment tabling! They enjoyed a morning of connecting with Veterans, educating them on the benefits and limitations of multi-cancer early detection testing, and answering questions. It’s always a pleasure to get out there and connect with the Veterans we serve! #MCED #REFLECTIONStudy #G2V #PrecisionMedicine #GenomicMedicine #GeneticTesting
