UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited is glad to announce that Microsoft is renewing their commitment to global programme Passport to Earning (P2E). By 2027, through support from Microsoft and other partners, P2E aims to train and certify 8 million young people in AI and digital skilling. P2E leverages a digital platform to provide free, quality, job-relevant skills to better position young people to access advanced skilling, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. This new phase of the partnership will help ensure that young people in Brazil, India, Nigeria and beyond are prepared with #SkillsRightNow to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy.

A global UNICEF partnership to skill and connect young people to opportunities in education, employment, social impact.
About us
If the largest generation of young people in history is prepared for the transition to work, the potential for global progress is unlimited! Generation Unlimited is a global multi-sector partnership convened by the UN Secretary-General at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in September 2018. Hosted by UNICEF, Generation Unlimited (GenU) works to ensure that the world’s 1.8 billion youth are connected to the internet, have access to world-class digital learning and skilling solutions and are economically empowered with employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Generation Unlimited creates public-private partnerships – globally and in countries – to co-create and support investment opportunities, programmes and innovations at a large scale, and to help young people become productive in life. Our focus is on three strategic priorities: 1. Scale up online/remote learning, skilling, and livelihood platforms 2. Boost entrepreneurial skills and opportunities 3. Engage youth as changemakers

🚀 🇰🇪 Asante Mombasa and Kisumu… Karibu Nairobi! Over 100 young Kenyan #BeGreenAfrica entrepreneurs gathered last week in Mombasa and Kisumu to pitch their businesses, each focused on transforming waste into valuable resources. This is the first-ever cohort of the #BeGreenAfrica programme in Kenya, South Africa, Senegal, and Nigeria who have received in-depth training in green entrepreneurship, with a special focus on waste management. Implemented in Kenya by UNICEF Generation Unlimited through the UNICEF Kenya Country Office and The Tony Elumelu Foundation, and supported by IKEA Foundation, this initiative is designed to provide mentorship, seed funding, and other incubation support to young Kenyans. The goal? To transform young people's ideas into thriving waste management ventures that are good for people, the planet, and profit. 💡 📈 A huge thank you to Eric Nyamwaro, Vera Ouko, Vincent Oduor, Elly Savatia, Martin Oloo, Shaheen Nilofer, Kevin Frey, Charles Otine, Sandra A. Simbiri, Manuela Radelsboeck, and Akwabi Paul for their feedback on turning their value proposition into a profitable, job-creating venture. Thanks to IKEA Foundation's Vivek Singh, Generation Unlimited's own Iliana Albino and Wesley Furrow and The Tony Elumelu Foundation's Somachi Chris-Asoluka for their leadership in driving this initiative. Well done to the young people stepping up with entrepreneurial ideas that not only build livelihoods for themselves but also create jobs for their peers and lead their community to a sustainable future. #SkillsRightNow #EmpoweredbyTEF 📸UNICEF/Peter Irungu

Just back from a high-impact trip to Kenya that included: - Memorable visits with young Generation Unlimited #BeGreenAfrica entrepreneurs who are on the front lines of climate change - converting waste into livelihoods. (If you're wondering what's in the green bucket, its Black Soldier Fly' larvae turning household waste into organic fertilizer) - A special opportunity for an on-stage conversation with World YMCA Secretary-General Carlos Madjri Sanvee to talk about the power of partnerships. Thank you to #BeGreenAfrica partners The Tony Elumelu Foundation and IKEA Foundation and UNICEF Kenya for your leadership and support. Shaheen Nilofer, Vivek Singh, Somachi Chris-Asoluka, Tony O. 🌍 Future of Work and Training: Embracing GenAI for an Inclusive Future As GenAI reshapes industries worldwide, it brings vast economic potential but also the risk of deepening inequality, especially in some contexts. We must take swift, strategic action to ensure that #youth globally are equipped to harness GenAI’s power. Generation Unlimited has been giving deep thought to this and they have some key recommendations for an inclusive GenAI-driven future that need multilateral and multi sector support: ✨ Close the digital divide – access to technology is a necessity, not a privilege ✨ Provide free, accessible GenAI training and certifications for all ✨ Roll out large-scale GenAI skills programs, especially for underserved communities ✨ Invest in developing uniquely human skills that GenAI cannot replace, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and empathy At the Foundation, we are working on promoting acessible GenAI training and certifications & large-scale GenAI skills programs in underserved communities. With these steps, we can cultivate a future workforce that is tech-savvy AND empowered by #human-centric #skills. This is not just a call to action; it’s the start of a roadmap to ensure all young people, regardless of background, thrive in an #AI-powered world. We might not know how to get it done yet, but together - we can co-create a roadmap to a better future. We are starting to see tangible support from key players like UNICEF, Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation , Education Above All Foundation, Microsoft, and Accenture, and SAP. Special thanks to Kevin Frey, Christian Klein, Kate Behncken, Mohamed Kande, H.E. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Chido Cleopatra Mpemba, Aiman Ezzat, Prudence Ngwenya, Bill Winters, Leonardo Framil and many others for their contribution not thinking and acting in a joint direction and working towards a global movement for good.

Thank you, Kitty van der Heijden for supporting young leaders and truly listening to their ideas and projects. Young people have so much to teach us. Let’s continue empowering them to take impactful actions and contribute to a greener, better tomorrow! #SkillsRightNow
I’m on a flight back to NY after a week-long trip to Nigeria. And one of the highlights from last week was my interaction with the talented youth driving Generation Unlimited Nigeria (aka GenU 9JA) and some of the valued private sector partners fueling this endeavor! Seeing and speaking to the young people who are taking climate action #ForEveryChild and youth, starting from climate education, skills and entrepreneurship to recycling and tree planting in their communities was not only inspiring but also left me with a keen sense of optimism for our planet’s future. With partners like IHS Nigeria, Airtel, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation and their strong commitments to continue supporting young Nigerian’s transition from learning to earning is truly heartwarming! A huge thanks everyone who made this trip so special. No one can do this alone! UNICEF is all in when it comes to working with every partner and collaborator to support these young generational agents of change. We are committed to accelerate results and scale the impact and help build a fairer, greener, and a more sustainable future together with Nigerian youth! #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableFuture #ClimateForEveryChildAndYouth #Partnerships #Business4Results #Youth4Youth #Youth4Children UNICEF Nigeria Kevin Frey Iliana Albino Urmila Sarkar Celine Lafoucriere

In the article "How to Create a Strategy to Reduce Youth Unemployment", authored by Alexandra van der Ploeg and Eugene H. from SAP, they focus on addressing youth unemployment through a systems-based approach that tackles education, employability, and economic challenges. The discussion highlights key strategies to close the skills gap and create pathways to decent work. SAP, a key partner of Generation Unlimited, is helping equip young people with essential skills through education and job training initiatives. #SkillsRightNow
