  • Ahead of the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting this month, PIC joined leaders from around the globe to discuss how our PRRS-Resistant Pig (PRP) can help address some of the world’s most significant challenges. Our Global Director of Product Sustainability at PIC Banks Baker recently met with CBS to discuss the benefits of our work in this space. The discussions at Davos follow publication of a 2023 Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) report, which identified improved genetics as the number one opportunity for sustainably increasing productivity and decreasing GHG emissions in the livestock sector.

PIC joined leaders ahead of the World Economic Forum to discuss the PRRS-Resistant Pig and the ways it offers a solution for a global animal health challenge. Journalist Olivia Kinghorst interviewed Global Director of Product Sustainability, Banks Baker, about PIC’s use of gene editing to breed healthier pigs, reduce the need for antibiotics and increase sustainability. • At Genus, our passion for animals  runs deep. Many of our employees grew up on farms, so each day they bring to work their love of raising animals and caring for them in the best way possible. Anton Hermes is one shining example of a Genus employee who lives out this passion every day in his work. Anton has over 20 years of experience with livestock care and, in addition to his position at Genus ABS, owns a ranch with his wife, Kathi. Anton joined the company four years ago and works with producers in northeast Colorado. He says that what he loves best is “providing a service that leaves a generational impact on their cow herds.” We’re proud to have Anton on #TeamGenus! #WeAreGenus #GenusPLC #GenusValues #ABSGlobal

🏔️ From eastern Colorado, please welcome our next #teamABS Spotlight, Anton Hermes! Currently, Anton and his wife, Kathi, own and operate Hermes Livestock. Their diversified ranching establishment includes a cow-calf operation, stocker/grass cattle ranch, and feeding and backgrounding facility which is used to grow their stocker cattle and develop replacement heifers for themselves and their ABS customers. They breed the females that run on the ranch as well as in the heifer development program to ABS sires. They market many of the bred females through their Maternal Merit sales throughout the winter as well as private treaty. Anton has been involved extensively in both teaching and actively performing all aspects of artificial insemination and synchronization of beef cattle for over 20 years. However, he did not become an ABS representative until about four years ago. He is responsible for servicing producers in northeast Colorado by providing arm service, assistance with synchronization protocols, and semen storage. Anton loves his interaction with customers and his favorite part about representing ABS is providing a valuable service to all his customers that leaves generational impacts on their cow herds. Assisting customers in the decision-making process, selecting the appropriate genetics for their operation, and easing the associated stress are some of his favorite parts of the job.
