Last week, we welcomed our portfolio company country managers in Japan for a Country Manager Club Lunch Session. We were honored to have Jin Daikoku, Country Manager of Netskope Japan, as a speaker. Jin shared insights from his remarkable eight-year journey as Netskope’s first Country Manager in Japan. Under his leadership, the Japan team has grown from the ground up, fueling substantial growth and positioning Japan as one of the key drivers of Netskope’s global expansion. Jin’s experiences in team building, localization, networking, marketing, and brand development sparked a lively and insightful discussion among attendees. We were especially pleased to see many of our country managers join us, including Allan Teng (Workato), Hiro Kawanobe (Figma), Kazunari Hanao (Pendo.io), Kazuyo Yamashita (ThoughtSpot) and Miki Oikawa (Snyk). Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Helping Entrepreneurs Accelerate Globally
About us
Building a global company is never easy. The process of international expansion is still largely unautomated and the farther you are from home, the more useful local connections and know-how become. This is particularly true for growth stage entrepreneurs who typically see many clones of their businesses pop up worldwide, often with a local twist. Timely connected partners who know these markets can help you expand in an intelligent way and greatly improve your speed of execution to win the market. Geodesic Capital invests in rapidly growing technology companies facing exactly these problems. We help entrepreneurs as they expand into Asia – starting with Japan. Our team has extensive experience in both markets and is uniquely qualified to guide today’s most promising growth-stage companies as they embark on their global journey. Geodesic Capital is a new type of VC firm. Rooted in both Silicon Valley and Japan, we fund rapidly growing tech companies. We provide unparalleled access to senior-level executives, partners and government officials that our portfolio companies need to thrive abroad. On the ground, our subsidiary, Geodesic Japan, has a team of experts to provide unique market insights, sophisticated “go to market” strategies, introductions to top talent and key partners that companies need in order to start successfully.

“Build better software faster with AI” - Guillermo Rauch (Founder & CEO of Vercel) Japan traditionally has been a powerhouse on the hardware side and that's why they're trying to catch up with software. Now, the big opportunity and the big threat for Japan is actually the merging of hardware and software. This is why UI/UX is a meaningful topic in Japan right now. It’s understood, especially at the institutional level, that more investment is needed in user experience and the creation of compelling user interfaces for their products.

We're proud to see Jon Rezneck recognized by Kauffman Fellows for his dedication to supporting our portfolio companies and leadership within our investment team!
New Report: Introducing the first-ever Kauffman Fund Returners Index! 🚀 At Kauffman Fellows, we believe venture capital empowers entrepreneurs to transform industries across software, biotech, fintech, AI, robotics, and beyond. But how do we measure success in venture capital? While traditional metrics like net MOIC (net-realized multiples of investment capital) are private, we created a proxy to evaluate VC success: the number of startups reaching $1B+ valuations, exits, and their corresponding exit values. 📊 What You’ll Find in the Report: ⚫ Global unicorn activity since 2016, broken down by country and sector. ⚫ An Index of Kauffman Fellows’ Venture Success. Key Insights: ✅ 1 out of 140 VC-backed startups becomes a unicorn. ✅ 1 in 5 unicorns globally have a Kauffman Fellow in the cap table. Shoutout to the thirty Fellows who topped the Kauffman Fund Returners Index: Allen Taylor (Endeavor Catalyst), Koichiro Nakamura (Sozo Ventures), Yinglan Tan (Insignia Venture Partners), Justin Fishner-Wolfson (137 Ventures), Fredrik Cassel (Creandum), Mamoon Hamid (Kleiner Perkins), Shailendra J Singh (Peak XV Partners), Miriam Rivera (Ulu Ventures), Clint Korver (Ulu Ventures), Vinnie Lauria (Golden Gate Ventures), Eric Perez-Grovas (Wollef), Rob Rueckert (Sorenson Capital), Nathan Harroch (Ergeny Investments), Phil Wickham (Sozo Ventures), Patrick S. And let’s not forget ChatGPT started as a website! At such an important inflection point in the U.S.-Japan Alliance, Geodesic’s Ambassador John Roos joined a dialogue with Japan’s Ambassador to the United States Shigeo Yamada, Defense Innovation Unit (DIU)’s Doug Beck and Major General Steve Butow, plus Nikon’s Hamid Zarringhalam. They discussed opportunities for our two nations to bring the best of our technology, innovation, and manufacturing in service of our two nations’ national security needs. From helping innovative startups survive the “valley of death” to securing the supply chain, the United States and Japan have much to contribute and gain through partnership.

Why is open source so important to all the innovation we’re seeing today? Because as Guillermo Rauch (Founder & CEO of Vercel) said, “…on a super philosophical level, information wants to be free.” Open source creates an ecosystem and talent pool that allows it to collectively learn from the best practices, ideas and talent from around the world. On the flip side, it provides this same ecosystem of companies and individuals with unlimited flexibility and growth.
