Over the past ten months, dedicated GeoEngineers staff have been rotating through night shifts overseeing drilling along I-405 near Bothell, Washington for WSDOT’s ambitious Brickyard project, and this week they completed their final borehole! #FieldFriday Our field team spent more than 3,000 hours logging 242 boreholes since last October. Most of this work had to be completed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. so lanes could be temporarily closed with minimal impact on traffic. A huge thank you to everyone who spent nights hard at work along the highway, including our friends at Holocene Drilling, Holt Services, Inc., and Cascade Environmental, LLC! The I-405 Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project will enhance a four-and-a-half-mile stretch of interstate with a dual-express toll lane system, add three new Sound Transit bus rapid transit (BRT) stations, and improve multimodal connections. Construction is expected to continue through 2028. #Drilling #geotech #nightshifts #transportationengineering Washington State Department of Transportation

Our Baton Rouge drill team took their shiny new rig onto the #Mississippi this week for some over-water drilling near the Sunshine Bridge in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The rig is a custom-built Mobile Drill Intl B-58, and with the help of a drilling barge it works just as well on the water! A 14" steel pipe known as a "rat hole" or "moon pool" provides drilling access right through the deck of the barge. Shifting currents, boat traffic, and other hazards make over-water drilling very complex, but Kyle Kilfian and our experienced team are up to the challenge! #FieldFriday #geotechnicaldrilling #OnTheRiver
