We are so grateful to have an MD on our team that cares and perseveres through a trying disease! “Messages like this remind me why I keep going, even on the toughest of days. To everyone out there dealing with glaucoma, I’m with you, and I’ll keep fighting for you.” - Gagan Sawhney, MD #glaucoma #atlanta #eyecare #persevere #wecare #keepfighting
Glaucoma is relentless. As a glaucoma specialist, I treat a lot of end-stage disease, and I’ve seen firsthand how tough it is to fight this condition, knowing that despite our best efforts, blindness can still happen. While I’m grateful for recent advances in glaucoma care, treating this disease—especially in its most advanced stages—can take a real toll on both the patient and the physician. Every case is a battle to preserve whatever vision we can. Some days, I feel exhausted and drained. Glaucoma is an unforgiving disease, and no matter how hard we fight, the reality is that we can’t always save someone’s sight. It weighs on me. But then, I receive messages like this one from an acquaintance, who is also my patient, about someone he referred to me. It was exactly what I needed to hear today: “Hey man. Hope all is well. It has been a bit. Meant to hit you up a bit ago. I was out of the country and received a call from [Anonymous], someone I’ve known for years. He called and was so grateful for you and what you have done for him. He was ecstatic that you were able to help preserve a bit of vision for him. Man, I could hear the degree of appreciation in his voice. Unbelievable. Like him, I want to say thank you bc you being not just a super doc but bc of what you bring to probably everyone you see, care and compassion. Really appreciate you. Take care.” Messages like this remind me why I keep going, even on the toughest days. To everyone out there dealing with glaucoma, I’m with you, and I’ll keep fighting for you. #glaucoma #ophthalmology #gratitude #compassion #GeorgiaEyePartners #EyeSouthPartners
