Great example of the power of how a picture is worth more than 1000 words.

The MSUD is a 3-semester, post-professional degree preparing urban designers to redesign cities and suburbs to be more just, resilient, and prosperous for all. A studio-centric program, MSUD students apply the lessons learned from history, theory, real estate, and urban systems courses to real projects working with real communities. We believe that great urban designers need to experience great places and the third semester is an in-depth travel-study program through Europe. An ability to draw both by hand and digitally is a must. The program welcomes those with a professional architecture, landscape architecture, city planning, or civil engineering degree to team together with leading faculty on re-envisioning eco-infrastructure and retrofitting suburbia. Our teams have received 13 placements in 9 years in the ULI Hines Student Competition. Check out the Redesigning Cities video/podcast series at https://arch.gatech.edu/redesigning-cities.

Who thinks about how different property tax rates/acre impact where and what we build? Joe Minicozzi and Urban3 do. Come in person or use the QR code below to register to stream the Zoom recording. We're talking to you Georgia Tech Commercial Real Estate Organization (GTCREO), Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, Georgia Tech School of Architecture, Georgia Tech School of City & Regional Planning, Rick Porter, The Congress for the New Urbanism
Fellow Urbanists, Leaders and Lovers of Cities What’s not to love about wonky metrics and a tasty reception? Please join us next Monday, October 7 from 6:30-8:00pm ET for Episode 40 of Redesigning Cities, the Speedwell Foundation Talks at Georgia Tech School of Architecture. The Economics of Cities with Joe Minicozzi. It will be a very insightful talk about the implications of a topic we don’t discuss nearly enough: property taxes. After hearing Joe you won’t be able to NOT see how the standard practices embedded in our property tax system have accelerated sprawl at the expense of fairness and long-term economic health. The amazing Elizabeth Ward Williams of Kronberg Urbanists + Architects and Christy S. Dodson of Code Studio will join me in leading discussion and Q&A with Joe. This free talk is being offered as part of their Urban Policy class. You’re welcome to stream the event online but I hope you’ll come in-person and stick around afterwards to discuss Metro Atlanta’s property taxes over a delicious spread and a drink. Note – we expect AIA HSW CE credits to be offered for in-person attendees, but have not yet heard confirmation from AIA. And, if you have to miss the event don’t worry. The video and podcast will be posted on the Redesigning Cities website – along with the previous 39 episodes you’ll want to catch up on!
Great opportunity for the city of Atlanta and for an ambitious urban designer
Do you want to be part of the team helping Atlanta achieve Mayor Andre Dickens' ambitious goal of adding 20,000 affordable housing units in Atlanta by 2030? Atlanta's Housing Innovation Lab is searching for a Senior Urban Designer to join our team of housing, planning, and real estate professionals. This is your opportunity to lead design initiatives that directly impact housing equity and community development. The Housing Innovation Lab is at the forefront of affordable housing policy, and this role is a blend of urban design, planning, and housing policy development. You’ll help implement strategies that shape the future of public land development while working closely with developers, community stakeholders, and policymakers. If you’re passionate about affordable housing and urban design and ready for a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
Trying to figure out what Retrofitting Suburbia is all about? Check out the video below! Freethink, Irina Woelfle, Founder IWPR Group LLC, Georgia Tech School of Architecture
I'm delighted to share an interview June Williamson and I did on retrofitting suburbia with Evan Baehr on Freethink. Jim Adams and Jana McCann are featured too in the walk through of the retrofit of Mueller Airport in Austin. You have to sit through two too-long YouTube ads, but I think the lively conversation and well-produced 35-minute video are well worth it. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/ebY_-KG7.
The "conference" is akin to the ULI Hines Student Competition on steroids. 150 architecture students, 10 instructors from around the world coming to ENSA-Marseille to develop big ideas for clean, green re-industrialization of a massive heavy industry port along the Côte d'Azur... in two weeks! Who better to send than Ryan and Ellen?!
Georgia Tech's Urban Design Program Director Ellen Dunham-Jones and Atlanta BeltLine visionary Ryan Gravel are scheduled to present at a two-week architecture conference in Marseille, France. https://lnkd.in/eJM3kEMc
