Last week, our President & CEO Mark Tomkins had the honor of accepting an Apprenticeship Ambassador Certificate of Recognition at the White House on behalf of GACC Midwest from the US Department of Labor recognizing our outstanding ICATT Apprenticeship Program and MAT2 Apprenticeship Program . Alongside 440 other organizations, GACC Midwest is proud to be an Apprenticeship Ambassador in the US. This Initiative recognizes organizations that support apprenticeship programs and develop skilled workforces. Our ICATT and MAT2 Network Companies and everyone involved work hard to create meaningful and educational experiences for all apprentices while producing a top-notch workforce in many different industries. We’re proud to be recognized by the highest levels of government! Wrapping up an incredible delegation on AI, Smart Cities, and sustainable mobility! Our delegates touched down in Chicago last Wednesday afternoon, kicking off the the program with a briefing, including expert presentations by Karla Ruth Orozco Toledano from World Business Chicago, Mark Piekos from GCEP (Greater Chicagoland Economic Partnership), and Clayton Johanson from DB ECO North America. Their insights sparked some exciting discussions, revealing new synergies and shared goals with our Smart City delegation. Thursday was packed with highlights, starting with a panel session and networking event on AI, Smart Cities, and Sustainable Mobility. Our delegates not only pitched their innovative products and ideas but also participated as panelists, diving into the latest trends and developments. We were thrilled to have Marcel Altendeitering from Fraunhofer ISST and Joe Gallo from Illinois Smart City & Region Association join us for inspiring keynotes on topics including “Accelerating the Adoption and Integration of Technology in Municipal Environments” as well as “Smart Cities and Sustainable Mobility in Germany.” Additionally, a special thanks to our expert panelists Megha Lakhchaura from Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Matthew Gray from Builtworlds. The day didn’t end there – next stop was Peoria, where Doug Cruitt, MBA-HCM from Distillery Labs and Christopher Setti from Greater Peoria Economic Development Council rolled out the red carpet for us. Distillery Labs is a supportive startup hub for entrepreneurs to launch and grow companies, drive innovation, and spur significant economic growth. Our delegates networked, pitched, and brainstormed new partnerships with the Peoria community while enjoying the outstanding hospitality (and food!) that Doug and Chris arranged. A huge thank you to both! After Thursday’s successes, our delegation wrapped up with Ginta Rose Rubin from Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, exploring Illinois’ vast potential in sustainable mobility, AI, and Smart Cities. The day concluded with one-on-one meetings between our delegates and key US stakeholders, setting the stage for exciting potential collaborations. We wrapped up our trip over pizza, a debrief, and enlightening feedback. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event a success – your energy and support made all the difference!
