Earlier this month, our President and CTO Mohamed (Mo) Elshenawy participated in a fireside chat at the AI Infra Summit, highlighting the vital role of edge computing in autonomous vehicles. This technology enables our AVs to process vast amounts of data in real-time which is crucial for the split-second decision-making required on the roads. He also explored the synergy between onboard and offboard AI, demonstrating our approach to building robust models in the cloud and refining them for optimal performance on the road. Starting today we will deploy several manual mapping vehicles in Sunnyvale and Mountain View with the intent to progress to supervised testing with up to 5 AVs later this fall. Resuming testing in the Bay Area is an important step forward as we continue to work closely with California regulators and local stakeholders. This will allow our local employees to engage directly with our product as they refine and improve our tech through R&D.

We’re partnering with Uber to bring the benefits of safe, reliable, autonomous driving to even more people. Starting next year, following the launch of our own ridehail service, Uber riders will have the opportunity to match with a Cruise AV. Many thanks to the Houston Police Department for attending our First Responder Training earlier this month and for the robust discussion on our self-driving technology!
