Earlier this month, we collaborated with our friends at Sunflower UX Team for our first joint career accelerator for designers. The goal was to make it the last workshop they'd need for their career, and was built on a simple equation: ✨ Relevant experience + 🔎 Discoverability + 👥 Social proof = 📈 Career success The response was overwhelmingly positive among our attendees, so we're sharing excerpts of our presentation. First impressions are lasting impressions. Today, I’m excited to debut Pearl’s improved first impression, with supporting design assistance from Jessica Anderson, Saba Abramidze, and Yanfeng Dong. The goal is to enable a first-time #portfolio builder to publish in two-sessions or less. For the 3-week sprint with General Assembly's #design team, we focused on improving onboarding for first-time #jobseekers by eliciting user excitement, providing quick wins, and making it easy to pick up where they left off. They delivered. In that time, the team: 📝 Surveyed and interviewed dozens of users 🔍 Synthesized insights into actionable, non-obvious insights (my personal favorite part) 🎯 Defined clear problem statements ✏️ Prototyped potential solutions 🧪 Ran evaluative tests with users 🚀 Packaged it all up and recommended next steps Appreciate you lending your passion and expertise Jessica, Saba, and Yanfeng. #DreamCon 2024 was full of firsts, and one of the most impactful firsts was our Career Fair. Not every Dreamer is a content creator. But all of us are looking to make our mark in the industries we love. So we partnered with Lawrence Humphrey & his company Pearl to live up to their mantra of providing tools for overqualified and overlooked jobseekers. We know a thing or two about holding space for those that are overlooked, so this was a perfect partnership. This year it was important for us to show that #DreamCon goes beyond celebrating our favorite anime titles and content creators—it’s about building connections that can change lives. And we did that ✊ We generated thousands of views for jobs at places like Nintendo, Rockstar Games, YouTube, Twitch, Red Bull, and United Talent Agency. This career fair was a chance for Dreamers to network with like-minded individuals and industry giants. We’re proud to continue creating spaces where the next generation of Black professionals can connect, collaborate, and thrive. And we're already in talks with some big brands about getting them in to next year's career fair. Who wants to get ahead of the game and start talking about DC25's career fair?

Ever convince a client to take some new risks? How about adding a career fair and a professional networking event to a gaming and entertainment convention? 🆕 🤯 This year at #DreamCon 2024, our team launched FOUR new initiatives to continue to expand DreamCon’s product and program offerings. New Additions included: 👉 Career Fair - We partnered with Lawrence Humphrey and Pearl to engage interested attendees in the jobs offered by our DC24 partners. We generated over 3,000 views to their job postings with 695 jobs being shared and 215 being saved. We're talking about jobs at Nintendo, Rockstar Games, & YouTube, among others. 👉 Indie Gaming Center - We created a space to present Black Indie Games on the rise. This year emerging gaming studio, Afrime Studios, launched its Kickstarter at Dream Con 2024. (Shout out to Crandon Dillard & Erik Reynolds). We were also able to feature the*gamehers and their mission of amplifying and centering the voices of women and femmes in the gaming world (Shout out to Renitta Sweet) 👉 After Parties and Offsite Events - This was a classic "Money Man" move. Shout out to Keyheira Keys for bringing this to life and putting in a tremendous amount of work. We took a page out of the #SXSW, #AfroTech, & #EssenceFest book and leveraged 15+ local venues, partners, and promoters. The result was 10 official parties. 6 that sold out. And 4 that hit 83% capacity or above. 👉 Industry Mixer - Industry Parties are fun, but we wanted more for our Industry Mixer this year. So we partnered with Water Your Plants (Shout out Tamuka Simango & Jazmine Simango) to plan an intentional networking event to get partners, sponsors, talent out of their comfort zones and foster lasting professional connections. I’ll break down some of the deals secured at Dream Con and how content creation, entertainment, and accounting can work hand and hand… But in the meantime, we’re accepting interest for Dream Con 2025!
