Our own Papa Gibson & The Writs of Replevin were the winners of this year’s Battle of the Bands: Banding Together to End Domestic Violence, an annual fundraiser benefiting San Francisco’s Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP). The band rocked the house with music from Carly Simon, Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse, Hootie & The Blowfish, Minnie Ripperton, and Earth, Wind & Fire, raised $21,600 of the almost $100,000 total raised by the event, and got to take home the Best Lawyer Band in the Bay trophy. In an article for Law360, Washington, D.C. partner Matthew McGill and associate David Casazza discuss the issues raised in the bankruptcy filing of the car-rental company Hertz Corp., which sought Chapter 11 protection in 2020 when it found itself in an untenable financial situation because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the pandemic eased and the economy shifted, however, Hertz found that its assets significantly exceeded its debts.

Frankel Award for Pro Bono Service in recognition of her leadership in advocating for Afghan refugees in the U.S. The award was presented during a ceremony in New York on October 8.
