Partner Kahlil Yearwood, a Mentorship Award finalist at this year’s Law.com California Legal Awards, spoke with The Recorder about his mentorship style, which involves being authentic, finding common ground, and above all helping people achieve success as they define it, and explained how he encourages both junior and senior lawyers to take part in the process. “Just be yourself,” he says, “develop a genuine relationship and either offer or seek wisdom.” Kahlil is Co-Partner in Charge of our San Francisco office, with a practice that focuses on commercial real estate finance and capital markets.

Our associate Kate Swisher (keyboard, backup vocals) and her all-lawyer cover band Mistrial rocked New York City’s Bowery Ballroom last night at the ninth annual Law Rocks battle-of-the-bands charity event. Law Rocks events take place in major cities around the world; each band chooses a charity to play for and raises money through donations and ticket sales. Mistrial raised over $40,000 rocking on behalf of The New York Center for Children, which provides bilingual, trauma-focused, comprehensive evaluation and therapy services in all five NYC boroughs to victims of child abuse and their families. All told, Law Rocks NYC raised over $226,000 for local charities. Century City partner Farshad Morè, recently named Real Estate Lawyer of the year at Law.com's California Legal Awards, spoke with The Recorder about how the practice of real estate has changed from a drafting and negotiating relationship to more of a counseling relationship. Farshad also shared his pride in offering senior associates the opportunity to “lead the charge” and his advice to new lawyers never to stop thinking about a client’s business goals. “The best way to counsel and advise your clients is by keeping these goals in mind and framing your advice around them. Be your client's counselor and adviser — not just another lawyer.”
