Kaitlin Lewis, a therapeutic recreation specialist, says the Paralympics are a great opportunity to demonstrate that people of all abilities are capable of anything. Watching the Olympic athletes try their best and achieve their goals is inspirational and prompts some of us to dream of our own gold medal moment. These moments of victory are especially motivating for children and can be a spark to try a new physical activity. Read more at gillette.mn/paralympics and be sure to tune into the Paralympics via NBC, USA Network, and CNBC, and the network's Peacock streaming service.

We are so excited to cheer for our Paralympic athletes to compete in Paris! The competition kicks off today and runs through Sept. 8. Thirteen Minnesota athletes are competing in the games and many of them have some type of Gillette affiliation as a former or current patient. Who knows? A future Paralympian could be getting treatment at Gillette Children's right now. Organizers of the Paralympic Games say the event is a way to draw attention to the 15 percent of the global population who are living with a disability. Riley wanted to give back to Gillette after 14 years of being a patient. He recently completed a project to earn his Eagle Scout badge by creating easels for our patients! “I feel that Gillette has helped him grow into a great young gentleman,” his mother said. “He truly loves giving back to his Gillette family.” Way to go, Riley!!!

Hope all the Minnesotans out there are enjoying the State Fair this year! Gillette made a special appearance at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Stage. Experts from our Orthotics, Prosthetics and Seating team demonstrated how we help our patients become active in sports and other outdoor activities. We even called up volunteers from the audience to test out a prosthetic device as part of the fun!

Special thanks to the Bell Museum for bringing its Traveling Planetarium “ExploraDome” to a hospital (Gillette!) for the first time during the last week of Camp Gillette, powered by Dairy Queen! Patients and families were treated to several interactive showings of constellations, planets and the night sky. Other fun activities included a green screen for space themed portraits, a visit from the St. Paul Saints Baseball mascot Mudonna and treats provided by DQ. What a day! Thanks for the memories!

Celebrating the new The Minnesota Star Tribune! We appreciate CEO & Publisher Steve Grove's callout about Minnesota: "It's got this civic backbone to it that's unique." We feel the same: that civic spirit helped to start Gillette in 1897!
It’s time to meet your new Minnesota Star Tribune. https://lnkd.in/g_6bF3Df

Food on a stick, the crowds, and the farm animals are all back this year at the Minnesota State Fair. It is often called the “Great Minnesota Get-Together” and the state fair is committed to making sure everyone can have fun at the gathering. The State Fair is underway from Aug. 22 thru Sept. 2, 2024. A new addition this year is a partnership between Gillette Children's and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). On Sunday, Aug. 25, members of the Gillette orthotics, prosthetics and seating (OPS) team will be at the DNR booth at 1251 Nelson Street to talk about how devices can help children enjoy the outdoors and sports. Gillette supervisor of therapeutic recreation and music therapy, Tammy Larson, says the State Fair is an accessible place to take all family members and she shares tips to make your visit successful.
