Glass Half Full has lots to celebrate, lately! Thank you, New Orleans, for a wonderful night! Earlier this month, we held the third annual Glass Gala, a night of food, music, and fun to support our partner nonprofit, Glassroots. Y'all helped us raise over $45,000! Glassroots works to expand glass recycling access and education across the city, in the form of community drop-offs, K-12 service learning opportunities, and coastal restoration projects. Special thanks for this year’s gala go to our sponsors Latrobe's on Royal Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann L.L.C. Glass Half Full recycles glass into sand and gravel for coastal restoration, disaster relief, and more.
About us
Glass Half Full was founded in 2020 by college students who were frustrated with the lack of glass recycling in New Orleans, Louisiana. We started with an idea, a backyard, and a commitment to always seeing the 'glass half full.' Just a few years later, we’ve now diverted millions of pounds of glass from landfills and converted it into sand and gravel for coastal restoration, disaster relief efforts, eco-construction, art, new glass products, and so much more!

Glass Half Full is excited and honored to announce that our co-founder Franziska Trautmann delivered a TED Talk at TEDNext in Atlanta! Link to the video in the comments below. Held at the historic Pullman Yards, together she and her fellow guests sparked massive conversations about climate, robots, love, work, and wonder. The energy and passion at the event was palpable, with a wonderful performance by the HEAVY BOOTS dance company. Glass Half Full is proud to share a stage with such brilliant thought leaders as Joshua Schachter Jane McGonigal, Faisal Saeed Al Mutar, Jon Youshaei, Y-Vonne Hutchinson, Elise Hu, Jenny Hoyos, and Snow Raven. Thank you TED Conferences and Ignite Talks for this humbling experience. Photos: Jason Redmond and Gilberto Tadday

If you're curious about the Climate Culture Salon GHF attended last week, Leroy Brown expertly highlights the event below. Thanks again for a powerful night, Leroy!
Last week, the Climate Culture Collective brought together amazing minds and kindred spirits for the first installment of the Climate Culture Salon Series! It was an inspiring event filled with artists, scientists, and community champions who engaged in a meaningful panel discussion and activation workshop. We discussed the current climate challenges faced by our New Orleans community and explored exciting opportunities for collaboration on art and climate resilience projects. Last week, Glass Half Full took part in the inaugural Climate Culture Salon! Together, we transformed the Ruby Slipper on Broad into a space to foster partnerships between the tech and arts communities and empower New Orleans to lead in sustainable urban resilience. Our co-founder Franziska Trautmann joined panelists D. Jelagat Cheruiyot, Ph.D (she, her, ella), Sage MIchael Pellet, and Shafin Khan to discuss their work as well as the intersection of art, science, and climate action. This event was the first of many in the Climate Culture Series, and we look forward to sharing more as the Climate Culture Collective grows. We'd also like to extend special thanks to Leroy Brown and Ray Fontaine, MID for putting this excellent event together. #ClimateCultureSalon, #NOLAClimateArt, #PublicArtForResilience #climateculturecollective

In case you haven’t heard yet - we’re building a massive new glass recycling facility that looks out on Bayou Bienvenue in St. Bernard Parish! The GHF team took a trip out to see the construction in action as the new facility takes shape. The beams for the building are all in place, and beautiful cobalt glass gravel has been laid for what will be our break room and offices, courtesy TERRAZZO MASTERS. The facility is on track to be completed by the end of the year. We’re proud to work with RNGD to bring this dream of a project into reality. They also provided these excellent drone shots!

Glass Half Full is excited and honored to welcome three amazing new team members! Everyone here is a valuable addition to the team as GHF grows, and we’d love to introduce you to them. On the left is Aisosa O., our new Project + Operations Manager. She’s looking forward to seeing GHF grow and witnessing its impact on the environment. With all the initiatives GHF is involved in, we’re glad to have Sosa here to keep it all running smoothly. Ricky Ostry is our new Sales Rep. Less than a week in, and he’s already super-motivated to connect with business owners across the city to help them access efficient and affordable recycling. And on the right is Sylvia Jones, our new Marketing Coordinator. She can’t wait to spread the word about just how many ways GHF is protecting and promoting the health of the Gulf Coast. Glass Half Full is proud to count these three in our ranks, and we can’t wait to see where they take us!

Welcome to the team Angel Carter !
I am so excited to welcome Angel Carter to the Glass Half Full Team as our Director of Partnerships! Angel and I were co-directors of a production in college (see second picture) and now I couldn't be more honored to have her on the GHF team. She has a wealth of experience from being an Admission Director at Tulane University to her role as a Senior Manager for the Goldberg Scholars Program at the National KIPP Foundation, and the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Tulane University. We can't wait to see all the incredible collaborations and positive impact Angel will bring to our team!
