Reflections on Motherhood
Hi, my name is Molly Sype and I’m the Sr. Learning and Development Manager at Glaukos. My life forever changed August 7, 2024; the day we welcomed our beautiful daughter Darcy into this world.
As a first-time mother, I was a bit nervous about becoming a parent. Questions ran through my mind such as,
“Will I be a good mother?”
“Will I ever sleep again?”
“How will I balance motherhood and work?”
As I reflect on these questions seven months later, I realize that while my worries were (and are) valid and normal, I’ve never been on this journey alone.
I have mothers, including my mother, encourage me, teach me, and demonstrate the love and care I want my daughter to feel from me.
I have a supportive husband who weathers the sleepless nights with me and laughs about it over a cup of coffee in the morning.
As for balancing motherhood and work, that’s something I was most worried about upon taking maternity leave.
In addition to the time I took off to bond with Darcy, I’m amazed by the genuine support, understanding, and generosity I’ve received from my boss, colleagues, and Glaukos as a whole. From top tier health benefits, access to programs such as www.Care.com and reimbursement for shipping breast milk, Glaukos’ benefits are comprehensive and inclusive of all family dynamics.
For those of you who can relate to the questions I felt before becoming a mother, know that you’re not alone. When it comes to being a working parent, find a company that truly cares about you and your family. CARE is one of Glaukos’ core values and a verb I personally experienced throughout my maternity leave and return to work.
