One of the best ways to start a steel development is to measure dilatometry in a known thermal cycle to identify phase transformation temperatures such as austenite, ferrite and others. There are many ways to measure dilatation from a sample and the Gleeble non-contact micrometer combined with accurate temperature control is one of the best ways to do it. It can give you accurate data without any mechanical or thermal interference during the measurement. Dilatometry data can be used to construct the Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) of a given specimen and this can give you valuable data for subsequent processing such as annealing and hot forming.
