Josie-Mae Richards wins New Professional of the Year! ✨👷♀️ We’re delighted to share that Josie-Mae Richards won the Constructing Excellence Midlands G4C New Professional of the Year award last night. The G4C ‘Generation for Change’ awards are a celebration of the next generation of leaders in the construction industry and are a great opportunity to spotlight those who excel in their day-to-day roles.  Josie-Mae joined Gleeds as a graduate in 2022 and is now an Assistant Project Manager, helping to deliver some of our most complex and prestigious projects in the Midlands and North of England. She also led the project management on our new Nottingham office at 11 Station Street which had its grand opening last year. Back in 2021, Josie-Mae was also awarded Winner of the Women in Property Awards, North West.  The Constructing Excellence Midlands group said Josie-Mae's “talent and commitment to the industry are truly commendable...the future is bright!”.  When commenting on her win last night, Josie-Mae said “I was delighted to hear my name announced as New Professional of the Year in the Midlands. I never work for recognition, but it does feel pretty good when it happens! I love my job, and I love working for Gleeds. Recently, we shared the story of where Gleeds got its name from and the news of our 150th birthday...and it’s safe to say Linkedin went *crazy* for it.     This month we're spotlighting the next character in the Gleeds story: Arthur Herbert Belcher, aka Richard Gleed’s right-hand man.     Arthur Belcher was born in Kennington on 24th August 1858 and was the son of the illustrious architect John Belcher. He studied at University College London and the Architectural Association, articling for his father for the first 10 years of his career until he became an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1882.     Arthur joined Gleeds in 1893 and he and Richard opened a new office in 8 & 9 Martin Lane following Richard's successful stint on Chancery Lane. Arthur and Richard started expanding the business: taking on more employees, more complex projects and finding time to influence the industry as a whole. The firm took on a new name for the next 21 years, ‘Gleed and Belcher, Surveyors’ where Arthur predominately practiced as an architect and Richard as a surveyor.   In addition to this, Arthur was granted Freedom of the City of London through patrimony in 1905, following his father’s significant contribution to the industry. He retired in 1912, where he then spent time campaigning for close acquaintance and Member of Parliament, George Balfour, up until he passed away in 1924 at his home in Hampstead.   During the 21 years Arthur led Gleeds with Richard, the firm grew significantly and more than doubled in size. At the time, ‘Gleed and Belcher, Surveyors’ were the Batman and Robin of the construction industry 🦸♂️ and their influence on the industry was unrivalled, helping to create and develop the role of the quantity surveyor and promote the industry as a whole.   Richard Gleed and Arthur Belcher 🕺...name a more iconic duo, we’ll wait.   https://lnkd.in/exjQskCn #Gleeds150Anniversary #LifeatGleeds

Improving health services in Peru  This week Gleeds was proud to celebrate a key milestone in the Peru Reconstruction programme, with the inauguration of Matucana Hospital.  Matucana is one of 18 healthcare facilities being delivered by the National Infrastructure Authority (ANIN), with technical support from the UK Delivery Team (UKDT) made up of Gleeds, Mace and Arup.  As one of the largest and most resilient hospitals in the Lima region; Matucana will serve over 84,000 residents and has been designed to withstand extreme weather events, ensuring that vital healthcare services continue, even in adverse conditions. Gleeds is proud to have provided employer’s agent and cost management services for EdCity, a significant new development in White City, London. This not-for-profit partnership between Ark and Hammersmith & Fulham Council is delivering vital community infrastructure, including new educational facilities, office space and affordable housing. With Phase One now complete, the development includes a 10-storey commercial office building, 24 residential apartments, a new primary school and the WEST Youth Zone, all providing essential services for young people since its opening in March 2024. Phase Two is now underway and will deliver over 100 additional apartments, a nursery and an adult education centre to support lifelong learning and employment opportunities. Gleeds has been actively involved in contract administration, quality assurance and valuation monitoring while fostering strong relationships between project stakeholders to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
