What does best practice look like when resourcing carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) projects?   With the UK Government's newly unveiled plans for Great British Energy, energy transition is a priority for organisations addressing the climate crisis. As the Government has recently pledged financial support for several landmark CCUS projects, now is the perfect moment to redefine our approach to planning, funding and delivering clean energy initiatives.   In our latest thought leadership piece, Paul Adamson, Director within our Energy team, outlines key steps to accelerate this transition, including improving tender processes, enhancing communication and navigating uncharted territory in delivering new facilities.   Urgent change is required in the procurement market to turn ambitious targets into reality. New leadership for UK business    We’re pleased to announce that Brian McArdle has been appointed as the new UK Managing Director at Gleeds. Brian has been with Gleeds for 17 years and will take up leadership of the UK business from January. Brian will succeed Anthony Cork, who will be departing the business in December after 27 years, having made an immeasurable contribution to Gleeds in that time. Thank you, Anthony, and congratulations Brian.   In January 2025, Gleeds will also be transitioning from a general partnership to a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP). This shift marks an important step in simplifying our operations and preparing for future growth.   COO Salar Farzad comments, “Becoming an LLP is the latest positive step forward, delivering clear benefits in terms of greater transparency and simplified accounting. This, along with our new global HQ, positions Gleeds to thrive as an independent business in a rapidly evolving landscape.”   With these changes on the horizon, we’re looking forward to continuing to shape the built environment across the world and play our part in creating a better future for the communities we serve. https://lnkd.in/dGvVeNxK

Egypt’s construction industry continues to catch favourable tailwinds as the wider economy strengthens.    Greater stability in construction materials pricing is leading to a more predictable business environment and helping to maintain project budgets.    Increased foreign direct investment and remittances from Egyptians working abroad have led to the greater availability of foreign currency helping to reduce fluctuations and uncertainty due to a move away from parallel market dynamics.     Where are government and private sector efforts being focused to further enhance the Egyptian construction industry’s competitiveness?    Find out in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/e3iQF3xK   #gleedsdigital #construction #sustainability

Gleeds colleagues recently had the privilege of attending the opening of The Quad, which was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in Telford last week.   Gleeds delivered multi-disciplinary services on the project, which will play a major role in the transformation of Telford town centre as part of the £80 million Station Quarter regeneration project.    Through our strategic partner, Perfect Circle, we provided programme management, cost consultancy and client advisory services for the project’s entire lifecycle. The Quad is now fully operational and spans 4,500 sqm, comprising spaces for education, training and enterprise, and is now home to Telford College, Harper Adams University and European Innovation. The facility will play a strong part in contributing to Telford’s economic resilience and diversification in the years to come.   The Quad also meets the highest environmental standards through the use of air source heat pumps, PV panels and sustainable urban drainage systems, aligning with the Council’s commitment to green development.    Read more about our work on this ground-breaking project: https://lnkd.in/eMwmJVJp Telford & Wrekin Council Telford College Harper Adams University Perfect Circle Willmott Dixon

A race to remove plastics from our ocean 🌊 🏃♀️   For the last two weeks, our colleagues across the world have been taking part in a race to remove plastics for the Gleeds Global Challenge 2024 🌍. This bi-yearly event exists to unite all our global offices and make a positive impact on our environment. For the month of October, we challenged our colleagues to tour across our 76 offices through logging their activities on the Climategames app and environmental volunteering in their local communities. Once we reach our goal distance, our environmental partner, ReSea Project, will work with local communities in Indonesia to remove, recycle and reuse 835kg of plastics from the ocean – the equivalent of 42,000 plastic bottles!   We currently have 757 colleagues, friends and family members taking part in the challenge and we have travelled a combined distance of 31,354 kms. Having started off our journey in London, together we have travelled all the way to our Singapore office! It’s been so inspiring to see our colleagues, friends and families from around the world unite and go that extra mile to make a meaningful impact on our planet. Keep going Team Gleeds!   #GleedsGlobalChallenge #LifeatGleeds #Climategames #ReSea

It’s Restart a Heart Day today – which aims to help more people learn CPR and increase the number of people surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.   Sadly, survival rates for cardiac arrests in the UK which take place outside of a medical setting are very low, with fewer than one in 10 surviving. 37% of people surveyed by London Ambulance Services would not feel confident in helping if someone was having a cardiac arrest.   At Gleeds, we were proud to play our part last week by running sessions in all of our UK offices where colleagues were invited to learn CPR and practice on manikins provided by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex. Over 200 Gleeds colleagues attended and have given great feedback on being better equipped with these valuable and life-saving skills as a result. We’re also pleased to have been able to donate to AAKSS’ vital work.   Learn more about Restart a Heart day: https://lnkd.in/dJxHRJs Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex

How crucial is social value in delivering future energy megaprojects?   As industries worldwide confront complex challenges, the energy sector faces unique pressures that call for considered solutions.   To meet rising demand and ensure our future energy security, we must go beyond box-ticking and look to create tangible and impactful change. Generating meaningful social value for the communities we work within is essential for helping the country to meet its net zero carbon goals.   Steve Golding - MRICS, Director within our Energy team, has shared his thoughts on why embracing social value isn’t just a matter of responsibility, but a strategic advantage when it comes to delivering the sector’s most important projects.   https://lnkd.in/erNzXNry   #energy #energysecurity #socialvalue

Shaping a sustainable future in construction: Gleeds Americas supports Climate Week roundtable in New York 🌍  As part of Climate Week NYC in partnership with Building Magazine, Gleeds Americas Vice President, Adrian Farren, and Chief ESG Officer, Michelle Regent, alongside other construction professionals, discussed what more can be done to help decarbonise the built environment.   Adrian brought valuable insights into the impact of New York’s Local Law 97, emphasising how it is reshaping the way building owners approach emissions reductions. His expertise is driving the conversation on how stringent regulations can create lasting change.   Michelle highlighted the complexities of navigating environmental regulations across regions, particularly the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Michelle’s insights have been pivotal in helping to balance regulatory demands with the urgency of climate action.   Their contributions remind us that while the regulatory landscape may be complex, and investor demands ever-evolving, there are actionable steps we can take now to drive meaningful, lasting change. By continuing to innovate, collaborate, and advocate for greener solutions, we are confident that a more sustainable and resilient future is within reach.   Learn more about the event here: https://lnkd.in/e4MXdB9s   #Sustainability #ClimateWeekNYC #GreenBuilding Climate Group

Gleeds' key takeaways from Europe’s largest real estate exhibition EXPO REAL (Messe München)   It was an incredible few days at Expo Real in Munich! With more than 40,000 participants and 1,778 exhibitors, this year’s event was packed with insights, conversation and trends shaping the future of real estate.   Key takeaways from our time at the event: ◾ We're sensing optimism about increased capital deployment in Europe and real estate in the coming year, despite expectations of limited deal flow. London is showing clear signs of resurgence, while Spain continues to hold strong with its solid economic fundamentals, further reinforcing investor confidence in these markets. ◾ ESG strategies are maturing. Beyond compliance with this year’s reporting requirements, the focus is shifting towards practical, long-term asset management and futureproofing, rather than reactive short-term changes. ◾ The trend towards asset class diversification remains strong as the industry continues to explore new approaches to drive sustainable growth.   We’ll be continuing these discussions in the coming weeks and months, and look forward to playing a role in shaping the future of the real estate market. #EXPOREAL2024 #RealEstate #construction
