Alzheimer’s is personal for me. I think of my dad and his impact on my life all the time. That’s one of the reasons I’m excited about the investments we’re making to accelerate Alzheimer’s R&D, particularly by enabling more data sharing and global collaboration among researchers. Recently, our partners at the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative surveyed Alzheimer’s researchers at AAIC24 to learn what they’re most excited about—and what they view as the greatest barriers to progress. Their responses were interesting. Researchers are excited about the potential for new therapeutics and diagnostic tools, including blood-based biomarkers. They believe we need to break down barriers to data access, data sharing, and global research collaboration across academia, research agencies, and pharmaceutical companies to continue to drive and accelerate breakthroughs. I agree. The potential for AI and machine learning to speed up Alzheimer’s research is also something that excites me. In the next couple months, the ADDI will be launching applications for a fellowship cohort with this exact focus. I’m eager to see how all these efforts will help us make even more progress and eventually find a cure.

On #SouthSouthCooperationDay, we celebrate the rising influence of the Global South in the G20. Our G20 Report underscores how regional powerhouses like India, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia are leading the charge to amplify the needs and voices of the Global South countries to resolve development challenges. Today, we see the interlinking challenges where climate change and rising health crises are undoing a lot of progress and exacerbating existing issues. However, countries have found hope in recent innovations such as Digital Public Goods (DPGs) through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). These innovations are revolutionizing access to essential services, from healthcare to financial inclusion, empowering communities to adapt to climate threats, and fostering resilient economic systems. DPGs and DPI are tackling these challenges head-on by: 1. Expanding digital healthcare systems that provide affordable and accessible care, particularly in remote and underserved areas. 2. Strengthening agricultural systems through digital platforms that improve food security by connecting farmers to markets and providing climate-smart solutions. 3. Enabling digital financial services to drive economic growth, support small businesses, and foster inclusive development. Still, this alone won't be enough. We need urgent financing from developed countries and multilateral banks to help Global South countries address these emerging challenges and shape a balanced and equitable world.
