The mission of Global Lyme Alliance is to cure Lyme and other tick-borne diseases through innovative research, awareness, and empowering the patient voice. GLA has gained national prominence for funding some of the most urgent and promising research in the field by awarding over $16 million to our research program to date. GLA supports patients through every step in their journey, from finding a Lyme-treating physician to a peer-to-peer mentor program and a wealth of resources and information on its website. GLA also offers an ambassador program for volunteers to raise awareness through education, create fundraising events in their area, or collaborate to advance GLA's mission. At the 9th Annual Global Lyme Alliance Gala, we had the privilege of honoring Rob Kobre for his unwavering dedication to the fight against Lyme disease and his enormous contributions to GLA. His heartfelt speech touched on the values that drive his mission: "My parents always told me and my brother Steve that 'you have no right to complain unless you’re willing to do something about it.' Well, I just want to say to my mom, who is 86 years old and here tonight, and to my Dad who can’t be — I heard you. And I did something about it. We all did. And we’re not stopping now." Rob’s leadership has been transformative, pushing for groundbreaking research and patient support that continue to impact so many. Dr. Linden Hu of Tufts University, a renowned expert in the field of Lyme research and member of GLA's Scientific Advisory Board, has secured a $20 million grant from the NIH to lead one of the largest studies on chronic Lyme disease to date. This groundbreaking research will seek to uncover the root causes of persistent Lyme symptoms, and bring us closer to improved treatments. After we entered the tick space with our new tick remover tool, we weren’t prepared for the number of people who reached out to us asking for help and guidance around the topic of Lyme disease, education, and awareness. It was evident there was a real lack of viable resources that weren't tarnished with misinformation and individuals taking advantage of others; even our own community didn’t know where to turn or who to trust. As part of our commitment to sharing only factual, transparent, and accurate information directly from world-leading experts on the front line through our Guardians Against Ticks Initiative, we are now summoning our own community and beyond to help give back in a creative and free way. Global Lyme Alliance offers a free mentor/mentee program that is an incredible resource for helping people or their loved ones who are dealing with Lyme disease. What we are looking for: 1) Men or women who have been through their own personal Lyme journey and would be willing to participate in the Global Lyme Alliance's Mentor/Mentee program to be strategically paired with someone who needs support. (This is a free program) (*Mentors who are men are desperately needed, as there is a group of male mentees already looking for support.) 2) Anyone who is going through their own Lyme disease journey and is looking for free resources or support.
