Shaver Transportation Co’s tug Willamette has returned to its duties with a brand new set of Z-drives and improved performance. Our team assisted Shaver with modifications to the tug to accommodate the new propulsion units and provided controls integration services to incorporate the new machinery into the rest of the vessel systems. We also took the opportunity to stiffen the stern of the vessel and replace the existing Z-drive guards with more streamlined versions which reduced vibration and resulted in gains in speed for the tug. The Willamette is a key part of the Shaver fleet, helping ships and barges safely navigate the Columbia River—we are pleased to have helped return this workboat to the water so it can continue supporting essential maritime activities along the West Coast’s inland waterways. #marineengineering #controlsengineering #zdrivereplacement

We’re excited to announce that Glosten has been selected to design the next RoPax vessel for the Fishers Island Ferry District! This new vessel will replace the Munnatawket, which has served the island since 1978. The ferry is a critical lifeline connecting Fishers Island to the Connecticut mainland with year-round service. The new Subchapter T design will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the Fishers Island community, prioritizing reliability, operational efficiency, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. We officially kicked off the project last week and look forward to sharing updates as we progress through concept, preliminary, and contract design. #ferry #vesseldesign #navalarchitecture #marineengineering

We are excited to announce that Glosten, BIEKER BOATS LLC, and Kitsap Transit will be bringing a hydrofoiling ferry prototype to the Pacific Northwest in 2026! Washington State is seeking greener solutions for marine transportation and has funded a Foil Ferry demonstration vessel planned for operations in Puget Sound. The ferry will be a scaled-down version of our 150-passenger Foil Ferry and provide our team with valuable feedback on the design. Not only will this demonstration vessel mitigate design and schedule risks, it will also reduce the program cost and timeline ahead of a full-scale functional design and construction phases. Most importantly, it will be of the scale and utility necessary to prove the viability of our technology to the public and ferry operators around the world. #passengertransportation #ferrydesign #foilferry #hydrofoilferry

The newly christened National Security Multi-Mission Vessel (NSMV) Patriot State has completed sea trials, bringing it one step closer to training future mariners at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Glosten joined Vessel Construction Manager TOTE Services for the trials to provide on-site technical support during testing. In addition to supporting TOTE during the vessels’ construction, our team developed heavy weather mooring plans for each vessel to ensure the new training ships will be able to home port safely at their respective maritime academies. The Patriot State is the second NSMV constructed at Philly Shipyard, Inc. Shipyard and will be followed by the State of Maine, the Lone Star State, and the Golden State. #NSMVs #trainingships #merchantmarine #maritimeindustry

Our CEO and boat nerds ringleader, Morgan Fanberg, PE, made the cover of Maritime Reporter and Engineering News! Morgan sat down with Editor Greg Trauthwein for the September issue and Maritime Matters: The Marinelink Podcast and discussed his humble beginnings as a thick-haired engineering intern at Glosten, his genuine love for his job, and how Glosten worked its way onto the global stage. We really can’t think of a more deserving example of leadership than Morgan, who pours his heart and soul into this company every day. As the need for more hands in maritime increases, the industry is investing in the next generation to ready them for careers as merchant mariners, marine scientists, and engineers. Glosten is just one of many organizations in the Pacific Northwest supporting curriculum development at Highline Public Schools' Maritime High School (MHS), where students get to explore different areas of the marine industry through hands-on learning that prepares them for college and the maritime trades. We recognize the tremendous value these institutions have and we encourage you to get involved! Check out this article from WorkBoat for more about the nation’s maritime high schools or visit the MHS website for information on how to support them locally: https://lnkd.in/gZUbf5E9 #marineindustry #maritime #maritimehighschool

Congratulations to KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) of Science and Technology on the selection of Freire Shipyard - C.N.P.FREIRE, S.A to build their new research vessel, the R/V Thuwal II. Last year, our team worked closely with KAUST to complete the design of the 164-foot (50-meter) vessel, which will bring a new level of oceanographic capability to the study of the unique features and ecosystems of the Red Sea. Glosten will continue to support the project with technical reviews and engineering change management to ensure the detailed design work and as-built construction harmonize with KAUST's goals for the arrangement and performance of the Thuwal II. #marineengineering #vesseldesign #researchvessel #shipconstruction
