  • GMDI supports the #MNEAMonday initiative to spread awareness of the importance of medical nutrition. Follow the hashtag to read how medical nutrition access shapes the lives of the metabolic community we support.

A group of fellow advocates and dear friends of mine are starting something new today. In the United States and around the world treatment for PKU is well-established. We have a long history of research and development for new treatments. But in the United States access to the most basic treatment for PKU—specially created low-protein food and medical drinks—depends on where you live. And it isn’t just PKU that’s affected by this. The entire metabolic disorders community needs access to medical nutrition. We’re launching #MNEAMonday, and encouraging people to share their stories of why medical nutrition is important to them. While this is a weekly event, we are encouraging people to just share when and as they can. We all lead busy lives, and there are numerous ways to engage in advocacy. But when we come together as one community, and speak as one voice, beautiful things happen. Even if you just reshare this post or the reel I released earlier today, it would mean a lot to us. And I’d even love to hear from people outside of the US. A message of solidarity would mean so much to us. So, no matter where you live in the world or what metabolic disorder affects you, we’d love to hear from you. We are one global community, and when we unite with one voice and help each other, we can make a profound difference. #MNEAMonday #medicalnutrition

  • Deadline to complete the 5th Professional Status Survey (PSS) is extended through November 22nd! The PSS addresses salary and benefit compensation for metabolic dietitians, including both clinical and industry dietitians. The purpose of this survey is to compile information about job responsibilities and salaries that can be used to support individual efforts to secure equitable compensation. GMDI partnered with the National Coordinating Center for the Regional Genetics Networks (NCC) to minimize questions that were already asked in the 2023 Genetics Workforce Survey conducted earlier this year. The 2023 PSS will primarily focus on compensation for metabolic dietitians. Participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous; no identifiers (e.g., email) will be collected. Respondents are providing consent to participate when completing the survey. The questionnaire will take about 20-30 minutes to complete, though you do NOT have to finish the entire questionnaire at once. Please submit your response by Wednesday, November 22nd. https://lnkd.in/e2SbsA3i If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, please contact Krista Viau, PhD, RD at krista.viau@childrens.harvard.edu. Thank you for your participation!
