From demand fluctuations to regulatory pressures, brands are being pushed to rethink their supplier strategies to boost resilience, efficiency, and sustainability. This recent survey of apparel chief procurement officers highlights five key themes that are reshaping the sourcing landscape: enhancing efficiency, rebalancing global supply footprints, restructuring strategic supplier relationships, striving towards sustainability goals, and leveraging digital solutions for better collaboration and decision-making. To thrive, brands must establish enduring relationships with suppliers and innovate beyond traditional practices. "Brands are rethinking their approach to manufacturers and suppliers, with an emphasis on long-term strategic partnerships to improve demand and production planning, resilience, and efficiency. Consolidating the supplier base is a natural part of this shift: 71 percent of brands consider it a medium to high priority for their strategy in the next five years. Our survey respondents also reported deeper relationships (including long-term volume commitments, shared strategic three- to five-year plans, and collaboration partnerships) represent 43 percent of apparel’s total supplier base, up from 26 percent in 2019 (Exhibit 4)." Now is the time to reimagine the apparel value chain for a more agile and resilient future. #SustainableSourcing #SupplyChainResilience #DigitalTransformation #ApparelIndustry #Accessories #StrategicPartnerships #gmpc https://lnkd.in/gAHnqciK

Impending Strike at VOC Port: A Critical Moment for India's Shipping Industry Port workers at VOC Port in Thoothukudi, India, are gearing up for an indefinite strike starting August 28, with significant implications for maritime operations across the region. This action stems from ongoing disputes over wage hikes and the impact of privatization on job security. As permanent employees, contract workers, and private berth workers prepare to halt operations, the strike could severely disrupt one of India’s key ports. This unfolding situation’s impact on shipping costs waits to be seen. #PortOperations #LaborRights #WageNegotiations #India #GlobalSupplyChain https://lnkd.in/gHAQscM6

"It's all headwinds now-whether it's inflation, whether it's wage increases, whether there's gas issues, whether there's raw material issues, labor issues-it seems like no matter where in the world you go, you're fighting some type of disruption," said moderator Edward Hertzman, CEO of Hertzman Global Ventures. "I think that is the new normal- consistent disruption." Geopolitical crises and ongoing shifts in the global economy continue to make sourcing a complicated and ever-changing endeavor. GMPC's expertise in supply chain diversification and innovative sourcing strategies enables us to tactfully navigate this "new normal" of "consistent disruption". #SupplyChainDiversification #InnovativeSourcing #GlobalTrade

The EU Parliament recently approved new rules to ban greenwashing and improve consumer information on product durability, a move expected to have a significant impact on the apparel and accessories industry. Similarly, Canada’s Competition Act has been amended to tackle greenwashing, shifting the burden of proof to businesses. Companies must now substantiate any environmental claims with proper data. These changes underscore a growing global trend toward stricter environmental claims oversight. At GMPC, we’ve built environmental compliance into our sourcing strategy. Our partners can rest easy, knowing that we have done the legwork to ensure that all textiles have been sourced ethically, and that the fibers in your production line are what they say they are. #Greenwashing #Sustainability #Compliance #EnvironmentalLaw #BusinessRegulations https://lnkd.in/gm9YjYEd
