Today is Orange Shirt Day, a National Day of Remembrance, truth, and reconciliation for indigenous boarding schools in the United States and Canada. Orange Shirt Day, began as a way to bring attention to the generational trauma the residential school system inflicted on Indigenous children, and the damage it did to our culture and traditional ways of being.  This significant day serves as a reminder of the injustice endured by many Alaska Native and Native American and First Nations individuals who attended Indian boarding and residential schools. Wearing an orange shirt on this day symbolizes a commitment to raising awareness about the survivors' struggles and acknowledges the children who tragically went missing or lost their lives within these institutions. Honoring the History of the Goldbelt Tram on World Tourism Day! As a proud subsidiary of Goldbelt, Inc., the Goldbelt Tram has been an iconic part of Juneau’s tourism landscape since 1996. For nearly three decades, the tram has connected visitors and locals alike to the rich natural and cultural history of Mt. Roberts and the Tlingit people, whose ancestral lands we are honored to share. Built to enhance tourism in Southeast Alaska, the tram has welcomed millions of guests, providing a unique view of Juneau from 1,800 feet above sea level. At the top, visitors can explore scenic trails, learn about the Tlingit culture, and enjoy local art and wildlife exhibits. This #WorldTourismDay, we celebrate the legacy of the Goldbelt Tram and its ongoing role in preserving and showcasing the beauty and history of our region.

Goldbelt Partners to Pilot Free Starlink Internet to Juneau Goldbelt has partnered with Royal Caribbean Group to launch a community-based program to bring Starlink high-speed internet to locals, cruise guests, and Juneau businesses. Installation begins this week at the Goldbelt Tram lower terminal and will continue north on Franklin Street as the pilot program’s full range becomes active in the coming weeks. “Goldbelt and the local business community have been key in bringing this pilot to life and we look forward to collaborating further to ensure the success of this program,” said Preston Carnahan, Associate Vice President, West Coast Destination Royal Caribbean Group. “As Juneau’s Alaska Native Corporation, Goldbelt takes community feedback seriously. The number one complaint from this summer was the slowing of internet speed during busy days downtown,” said McHugh Pierre, President and CEO, Goldbelt, Inc. “We are excited to collaborate with Royal Caribbean Group to explore a solution and add satellite internet capacity to town. This project will help locals and visitors have a better internet experience every day of the week.” Starlink is the world's first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet. This partnership will bring Starlink to Juneau residents while enhancing the digital experience for vacationers. Access points and networking provided by Peplink, will help maximize coverage and improve accessibility with users. The pilot program will be monitored closely to assess its impact and effectiveness.
