About us
Goldfish Swim School was founded in 2005 by husband and wife team Chris and Jenny McCuiston. Chris and Jenny took a concept that they formulated with nearly two years of research, and cultivated a business that provides results in the learn-to-swim environment that you simply can’t find anywhere else. Their proprietary curriculum and systems were developed after traveling the country in search of the “best practices” to teach babies and young children how to swim. The first school, in Birmingham, Michigan, opened in 2006, and quickly saw success. Opening its doors with over 500 students at inception, Goldfish currently teaches more than 70,000 students per month across the franchise system. At the beginning of 2008, it made sense to begin the franchising process. As of early 2017, we are currently in the process of expanding franchise opportunities throughout the country and internationally, with over 80 schools open or in development in more than 23 states and Canada. At the end of last month, Pat and Katy Murphy became grandparents as they welcomed their daughter Shannon's baby girl into the world! Katy shared that she and Pat are so proud and absolutely in love. 🥰 It's safe to say that the Murphys are having quite a big year! On the wave of baby news, and baby announcements, we just had to share this fun reminder of when their son Ryan Murphy (you might also know him as a Goldfish Swim School brand ambassador, World Champion, and Olympian 😉) learned that HE was going to be a girl dad at the 2024 Paris Olympics!! The other week, several members of our team got together with our partner, Oakland Family Services for a special day of learning, giving back, and connecting. 🧡 Our team provided Water Safety Presentations for the kiddos, and parents were invited to a winter “shopping” event, where they could select from donated jackets, gloves, and hats, at no cost to them. As part of the partnership with Oakland Family Services, we also held a #GoldfishGivesBack initiative at our School Leadership Summit this summer, where we stuffed backpacks with school supplies for 140 children and put together several classroom school supply baskets! ✏️ Along with all the wonderful school supplies, each backpack included a flyer with information about a 3-month scholarship through our friends and partners, Every Child A Swimmer. Partnerships like these, and what we're able to accomplish through them, mean so much to us. Continuing to find new ways to make a positive difference in our communities and beyond is something we'll never stop doing. Thank you to everyone who helps make this mission (and dream) possible! 💫

Our CTO, Dennis Leskowski, was recently featured in an article that discusses what an AI future looks like, and how we can lean into this incredible technology by learning how to truly harness it, and work with it. "I can envision a world in which an AI chatbot is interacting with a person, and we know things about them--who they are, where they live, which children they are--because we need to know the ages of their children," he says. "But I'm hesitant to apply AI to that simply because we're talking about a children's service industry." Ultimately, AI can handle numerous mundane tasks, but important decisions, including how to protect customer data, should be made by people. "What can't be handled by AI is what we call the 'everyday golden experience,' our edge, as well as the swim lessons themselves," he says.
