*** Good Food Alert *** Growing up on the far southside of Chicago (Harvey to be exact) we have an affinity for the classic beef, dog & gyro restaurant. From neighborhood to neighborhood, block to corner and in those spaces in-between there's nothing like a classic all-American sandwich joint. Nothing like it. My first experience with Gyro Pit solidified my dedication as a customer. The woman who answered the phone was so nice I thought I was calling an event or birthday planner. I was starving and she took my order, read it back to me, and told it'd be ready in about 10 minutes. When I saw the place and walked in it felt very welcoming and very familiar. Specials, blue-collar folks ordering sandwiches, utility workers enjoying a coke on a lunch break and catering for the local school teams. And just like that I was mentally transported back in time to a different place. A whole different life. Growing up in the south suburbs close to Indiana a kid can see a lot of things. Times change as well. But it's nice to see that some things don't change. Great customer service, a super fresh and soft bun for your italian beef and some light rock on the radio. Rib-tips, a good chicken sandwich and a well-priced menu. It made me feel like it was 1991 again and I didn't have a care in the world. It made me really miss my Dad, but, life goes on. I'm happy Gyro Pit is here in Aurora and that I found out about it. I'm also glad it's on the corner of a busy intersection. I can enjoy my italian beef and lemonade, sit in the car and relax, listen to a little Bad Company or Chicago on the radio, and enjoy 1991 again.
