Good Samaritan Medical Center is an award-winning, 224-bed, acute-care, community hospital and a proud member of the Boston Medical Center Health System. Most Injuries Don’t “Just Happen” As fall sports seasons get underway, it’s important that if you have a student-athlete or support one, to understand the importance of proactive injury prevention. Here are some keep tips to help keep them safe and healthy throughout the season. Rest Make sure you're adding rest days to the schedule. Letting the body heal is important to having the energy to perform in future practices and games. Wear the Right Gear Gear doesn't only affect how your athlete plays, it also helps protect them and others from injury. Gear that is the wrong size or in poor condition can actually contribute to injuries. Stay Hydrated Whether a sports drink or plain water, drinking enough fluids is important before, during and after games to avoid dehydration. Warm Up Warming up and stretching the body before practice or a game will help prevent injuries. Listen to Your Body If you are in pain or feel ill, stop, rest and address the issue before continuing.
