Sept. 30 is annually recognized as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and coincides with Orange Shirt Day, highlighting the damage the residential school system did to the well-being of Indigenous children. Equally, it serves as a healing journey for the survivors and a commitment by all who wear an orange shirt, that every child matters. Residents, staff and family from Good Samaritan Society – International Falls in International Falls, Minnesota, recently recognized the day and wore orange shirts to show that every child matters!

Today, Sanford Health broke ground on Good Samaritan Society – Founder's Crossing, a first-of-its-kind senior community in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. “Over the next five years, the population of adults over 65 will grow by nearly 20% in the Sioux Falls area,” said Nate Schema, president and CEO of the Good Samaritan Society. “More senior housing units are needed to keep up with the growth and ensure seniors have access to care and a community designed specifically for them. These three special ladies from Good Samaritan Society – Hutchinson Village in Hutchinson, Kansas, were recently surprised with an anniversary party! In the next few months, these members of the Hutchinson Village leadership team will hit the following milestones with the Society: Michelle May, social services coordinator, 45 years Bonnie Stapelton, activities director, 44 years Patty Allen. environmental supervisor, 40 years. Left unfulfilled with her previous occupations at a grocery store and pharmacy, Julie Oaks pieced together a new, purposeful profession as a medication aide at Good Samaritan Society – Prairie Creek. This week, DeeAndra Sandgren, chief nursing officer at the Good Samaritan Society, joined other long-term care leaders from across the country for the 2024 Skilled Nursing News RETHINK Conference. Sandgren was a panelist in the following discussions: -Breaking the Bottleneck: Referrals, rehospitalizations and rethinking how acute care and Skilled Nursing Facilities relate -Acing the Survey: Achieving success in a punitive environment for nursing homes We are grateful for leaders like DeeAndra who advance the national dialogue around resident safety, care transitions and improving access to care.

Diana Wade put off knee replacement surgery for years. A move to a twin home at the Good Samaritan Society gave the former registered nurse turned artist the confidence to go for it. Thanks to mobile outpatient therapy on her campus in Loveland, Colorado, her physical and occupational therapists are able to work with the 79-year-old in her home. Read more: https://san.fo/4eg5osf

Happy National Assisted Living Week! 🎉 #NALW This week gives us an opportunity to recognize the role of those caring for America's seniors and individuals with disabilities. Good Samaritan Society administrator Alecia O'Neill said that assisted living care is a balance of providing help when needed, creating a great experience and allowing residents to be as independent as they can. Residents like Lois Rasmussen have found the right balance of independence and assistance with assisted living services from the Good Samaritan Society.
