This May, Holland Martini and I became new moms 2 days apart from each other. Yea, we were as surprised as you. And, then we started to worry -- how will we manage to nurture our new babies AND continue to nurture our first baby, GOODQUES? Well, today I'm proud to say that GOODQUES made the list in the top 300 of Inc. Magazine 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America. Let me be clear, this isn't a post about "doing it all" and being a "girl boss". On this week's episode of Own It, we’re talking to Holland Martini and Maria Vorovich from GOODQUES. Their firm is what they call the “anti-research” research company that is changing consumer insights practices. Their approach is to tackle research in a creative way. They founded the company in 2019 after years working in the larger agency world. They were named a top global research company to watch in 2020 and 2021 by the StartupPill. Another year, another WBENC (Women Owned Small Business Certification) for GOODQUES! 💡 Fun Fact(s): From 2019 to 2023, women-owned businesses' growth rate outpaced the rate of men's 94.3% for number of firms, 252.8% for employment, and 82.0% for revenue. During the pandemic, women-owned businesses added 1.4 million jobs and $579.6 billion in revenue to the economy. 👀 👀 👀

How do you effectively research sensitive subjects? Sensitive topics can range from sexual health and drinking habits to junk food preferences and even medical racism, stirring deep emotions and complex discussions. Even with the best discussion guide and an excellent moderator, expecting respondents to comfortably open up and reveal their innermost thoughts within a 60-minute session AND with a stranger can be...unrealistic. GOODQUES was recently tasked with exploring the prevalence of medical racism within the AANHPI community. Whoa. We needed to get creative to get to the truth. What did GOODQUES do? We asked respondents to draw comics. Wait, what?! Comics have been used in a clinical setting since the 1980s. The drawing of comics gives people agency in their stories. The imagery and malleable conventions—such as thought bubbles, perspective shifts, etc— can help convey thorny ideas and experiences, revealing cognitive patterns and triggers. The study's findings uncovered the precise origins of medical racism, and it was a surprise to us all. Intrigued? Reach out via comment, DM or email.
