News for Special Needs Families! Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are increasing by 2.5% in 2025, and this is great news for families supporting loved ones with special needs. For many, SSI is a lifeline, helping cover essential costs like healthcare, housing, and day-to-day care. This increase, while small, adds a little extra financial relief that can make a big difference in keeping things stable, both now and in the future. It’s also a good reminder to explore options like Special Needs Trusts and ABLE accounts, which let families save for the future without risking eligibility for benefits like SSI. These tools help ensure that individuals with special needs can maintain their independence and quality of life without losing critical financial support. 📢October Update: Several important changes to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are taking effect, making it easier for individuals to qualify and easing reporting burdens. These changes include updates to how benefits are calculated, such as adjustments to rental subsidies, the definition of a public assistance household, and how food is considered for "in-kind support and maintenance." #DisabilityBenefits  Here’s what’s changing #SSIUpdate  🍝Food Assistance: Social Security will no longer count food help from friends, family, or the community. This means an extra $131 per month for over 90,000 beneficiaries.  🏡Rental Subsidy Policy: A uniform policy nationwide will provide an average increase of $132 per month for about 41,000 beneficiaries.  👍Public Assistance Household: Easier qualifications could increase benefits, reduce reporting requirements, and help more people qualify for SSI.  We are here to help you navigate these changes and understand how they may impact you or your loved ones. #GoodShepherdFund 🔗 Link below to learn more:
