Meet Tyler, pictured here in red. He is a testament to the life-changing impact of The Academy’s educational programs. Only three weeks ago, Tyler was uncertain about his future and his employment prospects. Today, he stands just weeks away from earning his OSHA certification through the Goodwill Academy construction class, equipped with the skills needed for a promising career in the industry. Tyler reflects on his journey: "It has made a big difference in my life because three weeks ago I had no hope of even finding employment, and now I’m two weeks away from getting OSHA certified and possible employment." Tyler’s story highlights the power of opportunity and the importance of support in overcoming personal challenges. “I would tell someone it is a very good idea to reach out to the Goodwill programs. We are proud to announce the graduation of 21 skilled individuals from our Automotive Technician Training class at The Academy. Our graduates have collectively earned 31 certifications, including 18 SP/2, 10 entry-level ASE, and 3 Hunter alignment certifications, demonstrating their preparedness to excel in the automotive industry. Thanks to our partnership with Gurley Leep, all graduates are guaranteed an interview, ensuring they have the opportunity to immediately put their skills to use. "From the moment you enroll in Goodwill’s program, they equip you with some very vital tools and resources to monitor yourself. They show you how to take your own blood pressure, how to monitor your weight, etc. It was as simple as asking for help and knowing that they are there for us and could help us learn to advocate for ourselves,” Josie explained. With nearly 18 million adults without a high school diploma, Goodwill launched the Excel Center, a tuition-free adult charter school designed to provide more than just education. By integrating services like childcare and life coaching, our Excel Centers ensure that students succeed. Goodwill partnered with the University of Notre Dame’s Wilson-Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities to study the outcomes of our program.
