Meet Cristhian — as head of Global Trade Operations at Google’s London office, he leads a team from all across the world. “Our mission is to enable the importation, exportation, and distribution of Google’s branded products such as Pixel, Fitbit, and Nest devices,” he explains. “I spend most of my day brainstorming ideas with multiple teams about how to design effective cross-border supply chains to take our cool gadgets to the hands of our users.” Cristhian is also the former lead for the UK chapter of HOLA, the Hispanic Googler Network, and still spearheads various projects to “promote cultural, education, and social impact initiatives … like providing free training and hosting Google HOLA London Tech Week, a conference for Latinx startups.” His duties, combined with finding an “extended family” in HOLA, led Cristhian to a powerful realization during his eight years at Google. “It’s all about people,” he reflects. “Great performance and mastering specific skills are really good, but in the end, it all comes to your relationships with people.” Interested in joining our community and living the #LifeAtGoogle? Meet Charan R: a Bengaluru-based data analytics apprentice. “In my role, I work as a bridge between my stakeholders and my technical skills,” Charan explained. “In other words, I understand business problems and create technological solutions.” For the most part, this process involves taking complex data and making it much easier to understand. “I bring numbers to life by sharing them in visual formats, and I communicate my thoughts through the art of storytelling to connect with any kind of audience.” Despite his current analytics-oriented work, Charan studied electronics in college — with data science electives sprinkled in. Now at Google, one of Charan's favorite perks is the ability to continue developing interests outside his core role. “There are so many workshops and learning resources available to upskill me not only in my current work, but also across other domains.”

“I joined Google to ensure our artificial intelligence can see people like me.” Meet Auriel, a product lead in Google DeepMind. Auriel’s core work centers around ensuring AI products are accessible and effective for a wide range of users. “For Detection AI products like Pixel Camera, I make sure that the computer can recognize as many users as possible,” she explained. “For Generative AI products like Gemini, I help build features that keep users safe and improve the quality of the image depictions.” For Auriel, her interest in this work was sparked long before she arrived at Google. While completing her computer science capstone research paper in college — where she aimed to detect her heart rate using video signals — Auriel encountered a challenge due to the established model’s inability to register her darker skin tone. “None of my creations could detect my own heart rate accurately, but they could detect my lighter skin toned friends – it was really frustrating." Eventually, she solved the issue by creating her own detection model, and this experience ignited her passion for addressing fairness challenges in machine learning. Thank you Auriel for making our products and #lifeatGoogle more fair. Join Auriel and the team in their mission to shape a more equitable future in machine learning. → https://goo.gle/4dOU9q4
