It was the perfect way to wrap up the summer internship for students in the Law Links program, including our intern, Jayla Beasley. It was a pleasure working with Jayla, and we truly appreciated all she contributed during her time with us. The students received their certificates of participation and shared their internship experiences with support from their parents, members of our HR team, Aubrey Scheppske and Delores Elias, CPTD. Also in attendance were Shelley Brown, Iyanna Williams, program leaders, Natasha Dartigue from the Public Defender’s Office, and the Honorable Erik S. Atas, Chair of the MYLaw Board of Directors. Gordon Feinblatt has been a supporter of the Law Link Program for a number of years. Each year, a rising junior or senior is given the opportunity to learn about the law profession and law firm culture.

Under the False Claims Act (FCA), whistleblowers, or relators, bring qui tam claims against companies that fraudulently secure government funds. A recent federal appellate court decision highlighted the serious consequences of filing frivolous qui tam claims, ruling that relators could be liable for millions of dollars in damages to the target of the claim. Tamia Morris breaks down the details of the case at https://bit.ly/4ctMexQ.

Check out Theodore P. Stein's feature in the summer issue of the Maryland State Bar Association – MSBA Bar Journal, where he explores the ethical challenges of third-party litigation funding.
