What a 24 hours - or perhaps what a 24 months. I joined NJ/NY Gotham FC almost exactly 2 years ago in September 2022 as we were on our way to a historically bad season, setting the NWSL record for least number of points in a season. Turns out, that was just the beginning of the history we'd make. We started by announcing the first ever free agent in NWSL history, in a player-led announcement with Kelley O'Hara sharing her news in epic fashion as part of the Men in Blazers Live Show in NYC leading up to the Men's World Cup. Thank you Scott Debson and Roger Bennett for working with us on that. Then Yael Averbuch masterfully used our first pick of the draft to get Lynn Williams, Yazmeen Ryan, and future Rookie of the Year and USWNT player Jenna Nighswonger. Not to mention bringing on Juan Carlos Amoros as our head coach. The rebuild was underway. We started the season away against Angel City, going into a sold out crowd, a hostile (I mean this in the best way, ACFC friends) environment, and won on the road. That sent a message that we were different. Our Pride night broke the club's attendance record with over 15k strong. It was the first time the club had ever opened the upper bowl at Red Bull Arena. We've opened it 3 times this year. Our team members Kelley, Kristie, and Lynn helped U.S. Soccer break the roster for the Women's World Cup on the Today Show. And then it was time for the NWSL Playoffs, and a team that just refused to quit, that refused to be counted out. And we won in San Diego in front of a record crowd. We got the first ever Tiffany trophy - and took it literally everywhere in NYC, including dropping the ball in Times Square on NYE, and now today, bringing it to the White House, where Gotham FC became the first ever NWSL club to be honored as champions. Another first, and the day after we clinched a playoff spot. I'm beyond privileged to have been a part of the growth of soccer in this country for the past 15 years, but the ride these last two years of growing the women's game has been wilder and more fulfilling than I could have ever dreamed. Thanks to our partners in CarMax and Diageo for joining us today and to Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, Emily Tisch Sussman, Ryan Dillon for making today happen! Two games left on the Road to Repeat. See you all at RBA on October 5 for Watch Women's Sports Night presented by Johnnie Walker and October 20 for Fan Appreciation Night presented by CarMax and KOH's retirement celebration! https://lnkd.in/eJMq249G

“Being the first is historic, but it's even more important that we ensure that we are not the last”. Yesterday, we made history as the first National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team to visit the White House as champions. A moment to recognize the dedication of our players, coaches, and staff who worked tirelessly to transform NJ/NY Gotham FC's journey from last place to league champions. Today, we reflect on the significance of being the first to receive this recognition. Tomorrow, we’ll get back to work, focused on continuing to improve to reach our full potential. https://lnkd.in/ermjSMty

"This career... we romanticize it and put it on a pedestal, but these women are fighting for so much everyday just to enjoy doing what they love. I am so proud of them and am so honored to have shared a field with them." This weekend, we celebrated Sinead Farrelly's retirement from professional soccer. It was an emotional send off and we are so grateful for her time with us. What a career! Thank you, Sinead 👏🦋 https://lnkd.in/gUFB9qgN #WomensSports | #Retirement | #GothamFC

"Some of the best days of my life in soccer were definitely when I was your age. Try to enjoy every day and the biggest message I would say to anyone your age is don't ever let anyone or anything limit you. Just go after it. I'm lucky to be around some incredible athletes every single day and for every one of us in that room, including the girls who just came home with a gold medal -- people told them they couldn't. At one point or another, someone said we couldn't make it, we wouldn't play pro, we wouldn't play in college. And with enough resolve and commitment, I truly believe you can do anything. Don't let anything limit you." -- Michelle Betos, Gotham FC Goalkeeper. We are so lucky to have players at Gotham FC who take our ‘Keep Her In The Game’ initiative to heart. Being able to connect with our community to inspire and encourage their love of soccer. Keep Her in the Game will reach 1,000 girls in the New Jersey/New York region through partnerships with New Jersey Youth Soccer and South Bronx United. With an emphasis on building the program to reach BIPOC girls from historically marginalized communities with the highest risk of pending drop-outs – age 12-13 years old, we aim to reach 10,000 girls by the end of 2027. Be part of the solution and help us make the biggest impact possible: https://lnkd.in/d5h9QBc6 #GothamFC | #KeepHerInTheGame | #WomensSoccer
