Will using AI for proposals get you in trouble with contracting officers (KOs) and federal procurement teams? Gabe Villasana and I heard this question in almost all of our customer calls after the NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) team requested all contractors to disclose any use of generative AI. Does that mean they don’t want you to use generative AI? Here are some of the things we’ve heard from contracting officers: 1️⃣ “I can’t tell you how many proposals I receive that are just outright poorly written or noncompliant. I’m excited for generative AI to help teams submit compliant proposals and catch blindspots.” 2️⃣ “I think everyone has their own opinion on this. Some of us, like myself, are really excited but like with any new technology there are people who don’t like change.” 3️⃣ “We’re actually in the process of procuring generative AI software that can help us write RFPs and review them faster so we’re definitely excited for the impacts generative AI can have on both sides of the fence.” The short answer is no you won’t get in trouble for using generative AI. What you will get in trouble for is not doing your diligence on the output of these tools to ensure they’re compliant and accurate. At GovEagle, we’ll be the first to tell you that AI isn’t a magic wand. Instead, we’ll show you how you can use our platform to produce a red-team level draft, AND how our tools can assist you in reviewing all the writing for compliance and accuracy.

“I already use chatGPT, why do I need GovEagle?” This is probably one of the most frequent questions we get when our prospects first hear about GovEagle. There's three simple reasons we share: 1️⃣ GovEagle can create exhaustive compliance matrices and outlines. ChatGPT is not built to be exhaustive - it will never output the 100+ requirements from across the RFP, PWS, and more. Don’t even get me started on its ability to marry Sections L and M. GovEagle combines generative AI and traditional workflows to find every requirement and compile them into a full compliance matrix like a human would. 2️⃣ GovEagle does not have a maximum word count limitation. At the most, chatGPT can output a few thousand words (approximately 10 pages). Most RFP responses require more pages than this for just one of their many volumes. GovEagle uses workflows to get past this limitation and can generate a full red-team draft as opposed to just sections of it. 3️⃣ GovEagle can search your past proposals, past performance, and other content. With chatGPT you need to upload anything you want it to use in its responses. You also need to watch out for adding any proprietary information or CUI as this will be included in the training data for future models. GovEagle can securely connect to your sharepoint and automatically find relevant excerpts from all of your past materials. The system then uses that to create a red-team level draft in your style, voice, and template.

For the past several months, Akash and I have been building GovEagle and today we’re excited to finally share it with you. GovEagle is an end-to-end proposal automation platform built specifically to help government contractors respond to government requests for proposals (RFPs). We’ve been working alongside some of the most innovative government contractors to create the GovEagle AI platform: ✍️ RFP Writer - Generate a unique first draft in hours instead of weeks. The GovEagle AI uses your content libraries and outputs in your template. ✅ Compliance Review - Reviews your proposal against all compliance requirements and evaluation criteria to make sure you never get disqualified again. 🤖 Capture Assistant - Find past performance, generate marketing material, and more using an AI chat customized to your business and content. These past several months have been a whirlwind of conferences, cold calls, and code marathons but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re just getting started and are pumped to start sharing more about the journey here. Obligatory promotion: If you’re a GovCon or know one, we’d love to chat and show you how GovEagle can accelerate your business development efforts!

The best source of information IN THE WORLD is available to every person AT ZERO COST and you probably haven't heard of it ❗ Before I began the founder journey, I originally wanted to go deeper into academia and get a PhD in AI Once I became a founder, I realized I was learning exponentially faster than any other point in my life, including when I was in grad school. Even so, I still enjoy dedicating time on weekends to learning new concepts in math and science courses; and while plenty of folks are familiar with the Coursera & Udemys of the world, few are aware of the single best source of knowledge on the planet ❌ It's not some 60$ crash course ❌ It's not ChatGPT (although they are pretty good for many things) Let me introduce you to MIT OpenCourseWare This is quite literally a complete catalogue of the MIT curriculum, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, available to anyone with an internet connection at 0$ cost. Ya... it's actually free. Imagine that, the highest quality of information in existence is completely free and fully available online. I've used MIT's OCW while in university to improve my understanding of computer algorithms, statistical learning, and even how to be a better public speaker If you have some downtime this weekend and want to try a new lesson, give MIT OCW a try :) I'll put the link in the comments

1 year before he passed, famed MIT AI Lab Director Pat Winston delivered a lecture on how to speak In honor of his legacy, here are the powerful lessons from that talk - techniques to make your ideas stick & get the opportunities you deserve 🧵 🖊️ K + P >>> T Your knowledge (K) & practice (P) matter more than inherent talent (T). Pat cites an Olympic gymnast who, while filled with innate talent, struggles to learn to ski due to her lack of K & P. 🖊️ Empowerment Promise Start your talk by making an 'empowerment promise' - tell the audience what they will learn/know by the end. e.g. 'At the end of this thread, you will know things about speaking you don't know now.' 🖊️ Cycling on the Subject Go around the main subject multiple times, rephrasing and revisiting key points. This ensures everyone understands, since ~20% will be 'fogged out' at any time. 🖊️ Verbal Punctuation Use enumeration and signposting to let the audience 're-board' if they get distracted. e.g. 'That was the first idea, now the second idea is...' 🖊️ The Power of Props Using physical props and demonstrations makes your talk more engaging and memorable. 🖊️ Slides: Less is More Avoid text-heavy slides that force the audience to read rather than listen. Use large fonts, images, and minimal text to complement your words, not distract from them. 🖊️ Inspiring with Passion To inspire your audience, exhibit genuine passion and excitement for your topic. Share what you find interesting, amazing or cool about the subject matter 🖊️ Ending with Contributions End with a 'Contributions' slide summarizing your key insights and achievements. Avoid weak endings like 'Thank you' - use a call-to-action or salute the audience instead ---- Pat was truly a legend in the field of computer science and teaching You can find his entire lecture on how to speak via the link in the comments
