Great White House workshop event today focused on amazing progress in advancing #womenshealth research and the health of women. Everything from Endometriosis to sleep deprivation to Alzheimer’s to osteoporosis to menopause to maternal health was covered today. Holistic, integrated analysis of the health of women over the lifespan from head to toe was shared with updates on new data from funded research. Presentations from The National Institutes of Health Director Monica Bertagnolli and many of the various NIH institute directors and deputy directors from National Institute on Aging (NIA) to National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and of course, the leaders of this new elevated prioritization of women’s health Janine Austin Clayton Carolyn M. Mazure and Jennifer Klein. I learned that sleep deprivation is associated with amyloid buildup in women, which is associated with Alzheimer’s…as we know 66% of Alzheimer’s patients are women so important nexus. I learned about many other associations that indicate the need for more research, more innovation to close gaps, and more translation into healthcare practice. Hearing so many leaders united and taking action to close the gaps in women’s health was inspiring, especially seeing how hard all are working to integrate and share learnings across institutes and departments spanning from ARPA-H to DoD to NSF. Seeing friends in the field working so hard to drive change both in and outside of government was wonderful too. Appreciate all the work of the administration and so many in driving real change and so quickly!

Our Columbus Director, Andrea Harless, MPA, will be speaking at this exciting post-election luncheon. We highly recommend women business owners join and learn what to expect with a new administration and how your business can thrive.
Did you know that in 2021, the Economic Development Administration revised its investment priorities to include equity as a priority consideration when making investments. And the 2024 election cycle will impact policy shifts that could reshape industries and markets for many Ohio businesses without political control or input? Let’s talk about it next week at the NAWBO Columbus monthly meeting on November 7 at 11:00am at the Five Party Event & Party Center. A huge thank you to Congressman Mike Rulli for joining us for a roundtable with Produce Perks Midwest in Youngstown, Ohio, to discuss the critical issue of food and nutrition security. Food is at the heart of many important conversations, and ensuring access to nutritious fruits and vegetables is vital for everyone’s health and well-being. As Ohio's nutrition incentive program, Produce Perks provides a $1-for-$1 match on SNAP dollars, resulting in over $12 million in health food purchases since 2017. We’re thrilled to discuss how to expand Produce Perks to even more communities across Ohio. Together, we can help ensure that all Ohioans have the opportunity to lead longer, healthier lives! We were honored to be joined by a fantastic group of Mahoning Valley leaders who are doing the on-the-ground work each day including Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, Mercy Health, Mercy Health Foundation, Healthy Community Partnership, and Glenwood Fresh Market

The Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer, in partnership with No Patient Left Behind, has uncovered an alarming truth: financial barriers are preventing millions of women from accessing vital breast cancer screenings and treatment. Out-of-pocket costs are standing in the way of women getting the breast care they need to stay healthy. It’s time to break down these barriers! Read the full survey report from HarrisX polls and AmyLev Strategies below and explore Brem's resources here - https://lnkd.in/eetC2d7P 🩷 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

Pregnant With Possibilities Resource Center provides critical perinatal and mental health services to Cuyahoga County with a community-based setting that gives support and hope for those they serve through many different evidence based programs. Last week, they were visited by Felicia King, Director of Governors Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives and Amber Joyner from the Office of Congresswoman Shontel Brown. Ohio has prioritized infant vitality and is working to address it from both the state and federal level and we are inspired to see the bipartisan support and eagerness to see better outcomes in Ohio. We must support community based approaches so more babies see their first birthdays.

G2G appreciates this update from American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and welcomes more that align with utilization and access for all screening technologies needed for early detection in women of all breast density. The Breast Cancer Early Detection Coalition is working hard to educate and advocate on Capitol Hill to advance the Find It Early Act. Welcome more to engage in this effort — let us know if want to join this effort!

👉 “Black women have the highest rate of breast cancer mortality, even when adjusting for age and cancer stage at diagnosis. They also face higher rates of triple-negative breast cancer, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists noted. Structural inequities must be addressed, with minority women often facing delays in screening follow-up, diagnosis and treatment.” To address inequities and save lives, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is issuing a new guidance stating the need for screening at age 40 given the 2% rise per year in invasive breast cancer in younger women in their 40s from 2015-2019. Earlier screening means earlier detection, and breast cancer is 99% survivable when caught early. Also, screening can include mammograms which tell you if have dense breasts (impacting ~40-50% of all women) — which means additional screening such as ultrasound, MRI, MBI, and other technologies are needed for detection of breast cancer. Dense breasts block the ability to detect tumors with mammograms alone. Women need to self-advocate and ask about getting the right screening for their breast density as this impacts 1 in 8 women and many of whom have no history of breast cancer in their family. 👉 Learn more October 31 at 12pm ET for the Women's Digital Health Network online event: Imaging Technologies Advancing Women's Health — Register: https://lnkd.in/gRFTUnyf ACOG’s updated recommendations are consistent with guidelines from the American College of Radiology, U.S. Preventative Services Task Force and the Society of Breast Imaging. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #womenshealth
